Hi there, ca I ask, is VDMSound still needed with GLIDos to play tomb raider with Windows 7? My understanding is that VDMSound is now integrated with dosbox is that right?

Nope, they're still separate projects maintained by separate development teams afaik. DosBox is a pseudo-VM/MSDOS emulator, while VDMSound simply emulates a SoundBlaster and provides some other compatibility fixes for the VDM built into Windows.
From what I understand, Glidos and VDMSound are still the preferred method of playing Tomb Raider on Windows, though you could probably also run it through DosBox if you have a 64-bit OS. As well, to play it in Glide mode through DosBox, I know there's a custom build available that allows you to use nGlide, though I can't remember what it's called.
Gulikoza's SVN build of DOSBox would be far better than the ancient VDMSound these days.

Not to mention that NTVDM and VDMSound are useless on x64.
