Can SoftMPU be used with a hardware intelligent mode MIDI interface? The use case I am interested in is SoftMPU's support for the Roland RA-50 "fake all notes off" /RA50 option. I am aware that HardMPU can do this, but in this case I already have an intelligent mode interface which I would like to use in a system that I am currenrtly putting together. If nobody can answer this, I will go ahead and try it once the system is built.

Yes, that should work. The list of compatible sound cards (https://github.com/bjt42/softmpu/wiki/Compatible-Sound-Cards) mentions a couple of interfaces that support intelligent mode in hardware. You do need an additional SB-compatible sound card as well though.
