Hi,

Great neo-retro rig! Put some 3dmark 2001 scores too!

My neo-retro is:

  • P8Z68 Deluxe
  • I7-2600K @ 4300Mhz with Noctua D12
  • 16G some low latency Corsairs
  • SB XFI
  • GTX Titan
  • Windows XP & XP 64

I am running all latest drivers, so the '3d pissing contest' performance could be a lot better. But xp era games runs just fine.

The attachment rigi_2019.jpg is no longer available

you could try to use a little bit more RAM with a small Patch 😀

Windows XP on newer Systems (Intel >Haswell/AMD Ryzen)

Win10 Ryzen 7 5800X | TUF B450M-Pro | 32GB DDR4-3800 CL16 | RX 6800 XT
WinXP Core i3-3220 | H77 Pro4-M | 8GB DDR3-1600 CL9 | X1950 Pro
Win98SE Pentium E5800 | 775i65G R3.0 | 512MB DDR1-400 CL2 | X850 XT

I'll take a look at it later. Thanks for the heads up.

4G ram is fine in all XP games, XP64 does not use more while just running games. Performance in XP can be boosted by using tweaked or even modofied drivers along modernish harware. I had my old setup that is fully supported by XP.

No problems at all and games run nicely in high refresh rates with modern displays in full detail levels.

Tested my dual gtx 280s with this board to confirm it supports SLI, it does so that's a relief.

What Titan is that? My i9 9900k with an RTX 2080ti only scores, 103k. I know its diminishing returns and largely based on pure CPU clocks, but given that my 780Ti scores 65k, I'm curious what generation of Titan you are using, and if using the 7x0 gen of titan what modifications you made to score that high. I guess the 4.3 Ghz overclock could make up for a lot of that since the 780 I'm running on a stock 5690, I don't know what typical for 3dMark2001 which is mostly CPU bound though.

GTX titan, 700 series. The Original.

I have done no modifications to drivers what so ever. AA disabled, fsync of, pre render frames to 1, that's about it so no DLL tweaks or such.

I wanted to make a simple XP pc for certain time period games and I wanted it to be stable and it is. Actually, I bought all components except for the Titan and currently installed SB when those were new.

That's an incredibly good score , I guess I underestimated raw CPU cycles effect on #DMark2001SE, Do you have scores for that machine for 03 or 05, I'd be interested to see how they line up with scores for my 780ti in particular. I'd considered getting a Titan (As its the last official XP supported NVidia card), but I didn't think the capabilities would be that great, not that I really think I need more than the 780ti for XP games but overpowered is the name of the game for my backwards compat rigs.

980x works and the ram now defaults to 1600 though I downclocked it to 1333 manually, I'll update the photos later.

As someone who is still running an i7-2600K @ 4.5 GHz in my main rig, this gave me a good laugh.

Switched out the V850 for a Powerspec (Microcenter brand) 550 80+Bronze unit as I needed it for something else, I doubt I'm going to use SLI on here anytime soon. Might change the case to something that looks more like a late 2000's case down the road though.
