I've been buying some weird and wonderful things lately - the 3d blaster banshee got me interested in what turned out to be a whole lot of junk. That ISA card in the top right - for some reason they chopped some intel RAM board in half and kept hold of it. The banshee turned out to be ruined, a bunch of burned traces by the PCI pins and it doesn't do anything after patching those & replacing the missing PCI pin.

The card in the right was its own auction, it looked kind of ruined like this:

But the damage to the ISA pins was just tarnishing and it cleared up fairly nicely with some vinegar & careful cleaning. This is a proper soundblaster 2.0 clone card, the J98MF-002 or "Anchor Electronics Media Concept 2.0". I spent hours trying to get the drivers working only to find that the drivers don't do a thing, this card really is a clone of an SB 2.0 and needs no drivers / TSR to do so. The driver disk is really just a couple of demos and a sound test application.

I have an SB 1.5 replica, but having a proper 2.0 type card is excellent, it has line-in and sounds just like my first SB 2.0 card. It drives unpowered speakers really well 😀

Thanks all. Proprietary memory is awesome. There's something unique and exciting about a product that will never be produced again, as well as a sort of existential dread - similar to what one feels when a battery on a favourite laptop dies. That's why certain HPCs are so awesome - AA batteries.

Perfect - they appear to have a very similar layout. There were a couple of actual flash disks - I actually got a "disk is locked" message on both my XP & '98 PCMCIA-compatibles - any ideas?

I bought a random Compaq for $75 just for a bezel piece, which not only arrived damaged, but turned out to be broken internally before it was even shipped. Couldn't see in the pictures. This week on eBay...

I have this version of the card. Is the bigger (in my case socketed) chip the DSP?

Yes, the chip with the QC sticker is the DSP controller. Apparently clones tend to leave this chip unlocked whereas the original Creative cards have it bitlocked. If it's unlocked it might turn out to be a useful rom dump for current (SnarkBarker etc) and future retro sound card projects.

I love it! I just bought the same board but with only one socket (not "D" variant).

Got this 486NC 33Mhz 4MB ram Bondwell laptop. Don't know if it works, since I don't have a power adapter for it. Any ideas what would be the voltage and amperage for this unit?

This arrived today. Looks unused in beat-up box. Soooo nice. Might not be mechanical, but the feel is good. And those speakers make me feel like Carmack in this photo coding Quake (think this was SGI, though?):

@H3nrik V!, @debs3759 - 2 x K5 felt more appropriate for such a unicorn approach. The other option would be the 'flying elephants' 2 x K6-III+ 550, but that seems wrong for this mobo 😀

I love it! I just bought the same board but with only one socket (not "D" variant).

Still have to power it up and test mine, this time with proper CPUs 2 x SL27S or 2 x SL27J

Read somewhere that SL27S 233MHz pentium MMX should work, so will put it to the test
