Considering the monitor was loose in box, face against cardboard, with loose cables inside and cardboard support structure had failed , it could be due to bad packing combined with rough handling .

This might be shipping damage, but I can't say for sure .

I also find it hard to believe that something as glaring would pass any quality control if it had been present before shipping .

Anyway, newegg.ca seems to be handling this in a fantastic manner so far .

What I meant to say is that although this is sold by newegg.ca themselves, I doubt they do the actual refurbishing . My guess is that they buy refurbished lots or refurbishable lots and some contractor does the actual refurbishing and repacking work .

Got some free stuff today, I think I did rather good 😀
First out, an Aopen HQ08 fulltower. Came with noctua and pabst fans and a motherboard. Asus A7V333 and unknown cpu.

486 vlb motherboard with puked battery, gameport card, ide controller, and OTI vga card.

386 board with cache, RAM and AMD DX 33. Dusty as hell and when I removed the battry there are some damaged traces underneath. But might be fixable.

1.2MB 5,25" drive. 20MB HDD.

And finally this gem, Kingston 486 Now. Some bent pins but nothing serious.

Miniscribe, oh the memories, nasty model, keep this on your museum shelf. 100% failure rate.

Somehow the Miniscribe 20MB stepper motor SCSI drive in my Mac SE not only works, but once I oiled the stepper motor it actually got pretty smoothed out and quiet by mid 80s HD standards.

I also have a Miniscribe from late 1987 that only has 2KB in bad sectors. Not bad considering how old it is.

I didn't really need another Socket 7 motherboard, but this one had an ATX connector and came with a CPU I didn't have (Pentium 200), so I bit it.

Unfortunately ISA2 slot is damaged beyond repair. Not a huge deal as I almost never use more than two ISA slots on PCI motherboards regardless.

Did I need to buy yet another computer? No.

Was I going to let an opportunity at a complete, reasonably priced Pentium Pro system pass me by? Absolutely not!

I've always wanted an actual dedicated MS-DOS/Win 98SE machine for gaming, but living in Japan it's very difficult to find anything here for a reasonable price. I had resigned myself to just using DOSBOX (no offense to DOSBOX, it's awesome) for the longest time, though I recently set up a 386-33 and 486-33 in PCEM and really enjoy using that.

Having said that, I decided to get a DOS machine on Ebay. I didn't want to spend hundreds, and shipping anything that heavy here will basically add an instant $100 USD to the price. I ended up winning a very compact Socket 370 Celeron 900Mhz ISA-based machine with a genuine Sound Blaster card, and am anxiously awaiting it; I've already got a very nice largish VGA CRT monitor in storage for it as well. Playing DOS games at native res on a VGA CRT is really the impetus for this whole thing, as I just don't like how low res DOS games look on LCDs even if I use integer scaling or filters or what have you.

I know Socket 370 is not 100% ideal as the frequency cannot be adjusted, but I am hoping I can get some of the more speed-dependent games working decently through disabling the cache or using throttling/slowdown utilities.

I also won bids on Yahoo Japan for a couple of joysticks:
- CH Flight Stick
- CH Flight Stick Pro w/ Throttle

Neither have been tested, but the prices were low and I am somewhat handy with repairs.

Finally, I ordered a gameport-MIDI converter so I can hook my Roland MT-32 and SC55 once everything is up and running.

Bought a Tualatin Celeron 1.4Ghz from the Korean Tualatin guy. I'm ready to whip a 440bx' ass.
