I have a Windows 98SE box with an Audigy SB1394. The MT-32 is hooked up and I can play MIDI music on it from inside Windows. I can't seem to get Space Quest III to run on it. I have tried SoftMPU, with and without DELAYSYSEX. It finds the MT-32, but when I run SQ3, it hangs. No "Insert Buckaziod".

Is there a solution for getting this to work?

Tried slowing down your cpu?

No, I haven't tried that. SQ3 runs fine when I set it for ADLIB sound. Do you think that CPU speed is likely to be the problem?

Yes. I often have games lock up with any kind of midi if I do not slow down to 386 speeds. Of course you need a supported CPU...what do you have?

Lol. A PIII 1.4ghz. I know, I know. But I'm trying to downsize and a dedicated PC for just those few indispensable DOS/MT-32 games seems like the right place to start. The game runs extremely well, in all other respects.

Try running sq3 inside dosbox on that PC....I think it can still ouput midi over your soundcard joystick port maybe...and slow it down there. Or get a Via C3 ezra cpu, should fit your mobo. It's hella slow than a p3 though.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll keep both machines and turn my eye toward the 16-bit table. Choosing between my Atari 1040STe and Amiga 1200 will be a little easier, I think.
