I've ordered a Super Socket 7 mainboard off eBay a few months ago, which I wanted to outfit with my Voodoo2 card for some retro gaming. When I received it and assembled the machine, I found out that there was a problem: "behind" the PCI sockets was the CPU and its cooler, preventing me from inserting the Voodoo2 into any of the PCI slots. Some googling brought up PCI extension cables, so I ordered such a thing off of ebay, too.
It arrived this week, and a first test worked nicely. I initially wanted to squeeze the Voodoo2 into the normal slots at the back, but the cable wasn't flexible enough (I would have needed to remove one of the ISA slots, which I didn't want to do). So instead I took off the slot metal for the 2 VGA connectors on the Voodoo2 and drilled and filed corresponding holes at the side. This works nicely, and the Voodoo2 now sits nicely at the side of the case.
I've since replaced the PCI SoundBlaster Live! (visible in the final picture) with a SB16 ISA card, which still fits well.
As a nice side effect, the "3dfx" chips are now looking sideways, so it's a bit of a show off thing too 😀
