I went to the official site which is still up and got the patch, and the dlls and it still wont work

i get a message installng the game saying i dont have the windows 95 sound compression feature installed and i need to install it.

does anyone know how to fix this? i would like to see this game and i see ppl can play it on Vista and XP thanks for any advice.

There is a specific mention of the Cinepak CODEC problem
http://www.starshiptitanic.com/game/faq.html#1.7.1

Wonder if there are any sound codecs that are also broken / not present.

If it's the "N" (no media player) version of XP, then you may need to install Media player to bring some of the support files in.

well yes i did see that about the codex and i have the new fixed version installed but i keep getting the message when i install the game that my install of Windows 95 does not have the optional sound compression feature installed. Since i have XP i cant run the 95 install disk for the files and am not sure what to install to get the game to work .... it goes to a black screen and no further. it WILL run the bartender and the verbal warning at the start...so i know my system CAN run the movies...it just wont start the game or allow the installation of the final codicies of the installer so i am guessing that even if i put in the right replacement codex the check list of items installed does not include it so the INI is probably missing an entry.

anyone have a working install of this game who may want to share what they have in their install folder, in that i mean what files and what names of filess they have NOT to send me the actual files. And maybe a copy of the ini? i would love to see this game in action. thanks

Chris

I have got this working with WINE. It doesnt help your problem with XP but i thought i'd say i had to use the contents of the zip file i've upload to get it working with wine. There's a game patch, then replace the other files in the game folder.
Playing it for half an hour now and all seems well although I have to say the game is a little over rated
