I thought about assembling an overview about the VESA modes vintage cards support.
The tool I use is called vesainfo and puts out a table of the available modes.
I started to put those files at ftp://78.46.141.148/vesainfo/
and it will grow, though you may also contribute.
I know this can be extended by some TSRs, I included this sometimes. So it might be that there are multiple textfiles for one card.
Sometimes also the VESA BIOS functions within a Win9x dosbox won't be a copy of the original dos VBE function, but are extended/replaced by the driver.
Most prominent example is the DSystems UltraCAD Papilio series in this aspect. I also included this when known.
You may notice that for some series of cards the VESA Bios is identical, mostly if the 2D core is the same.
(f.e. Banshee to V5 5500 or Matrox Millenium to G200A)
Maybe this is useful for some, you could lookup f.e. if a certain card supports the 15bpp modes or specific low res modes as 320x400.
