Hi, i don´t have any idea what happen with my ET4000AX that can´not do 1024x768x256 on a TFT monitor

In a CRT works ok, i think maybe is because this card do in a interlaced mode?

My old Trident 8900C works perfect in 1024 on this TFT 🙁

I spend some money in this ET4000, just for keep using the old trident 🤣

Some ideas?

Is funny, logic say that the ET4000AX is the shit compared with the 8900C, but the trident can do 1024x768 in my TFT, and the 4000 don´t....

Then for now, yes, sadly, the trident still rocks for me

I really want to know if is possible to get 1024 in a normal way in the ET4000

It has happened to me also. Maybe it has to do something about the refresh rate supported by the monitor. Try switching to 60Hz while you have the CRT monitor connected, and then try the TFT. How much memory does the ET4000AX has?

What program do you use to test the 1024x768 mode?

I don´t know how to swicth to 60hz in msdos or 3.1

I tried scitech vesa 3.0, but don´t find any option for 1024x768x8 60hz

The ET4000 has 1mb

What program do you use to test the 1024x768 mode?

I try different programs
In msdos,

qpv (image viewer)
neopaint

Win3x
svga drivers
ET400AX drivers

The same results, 800x600 is ok, but when i change to 1024 "out of sync"

In the CRT the 1024 mode in the trident is perfect, clear. The Tseng do a 1024 interlaced horrible

Oh god, i spend 2 euros in the Trident, and 25 in the ET4000AX....

Maybe that's the reason it cannot display that resolution on your TFT.

Thanks for reply

For sure, i think same, this must be the reason, but i don´t understand how a cheap trident can, and a ET4000AX that i read in every place is a great card, can´t

Must be some kind of way to solve this problem...

The only solution i know for now, is sell it, and buy another card.... ;(

I actually use VMODE which was already discussed in this thread:

Before you complain about the interlaced mode for 1024 mode - this was the first more or less standard this mode for SVGA going back to the 8514/A introduced in 1987 by IBM. So while the ET4000 goes for the standard, the Trident go for frequencies old CRTs could not handle.

Does you card have any jumpers or switches? I remember I had one old ISA SVGA card, and there was a jumper for 60/72Hz refresh rate selection.

THANK YOU!!!

ok, the vmode file you say don´t work on my ET4000 card

But looking for vmode in google, i end up finding this file

http://www.grex.org/~keesan/vmodetsg.zip

The dos command is

vmode 72m

This give the 1024x768 non-interlaced * that what i was looking

Oh by the way, the trident 8900C is a little faster than the Tseng in Win3x !! 🤣

Now that i have Win3x and picture viewers working in 1024, is time to go for run Quake in the 386....
