Just a PSA for posterity, in case you find yourself wasting hours trying to troubleshoot a failed install of DOS onto an IDE-CF card.

First step: make sure that a floppy power cable is plugged into the IDE-CF adapter.

That is all.

Amen. What is weird is that I could read from the CF card without the power plugged into the IDE-CF adapter. I just couldn't write to it with the MS-DOS installer. Even EZ-Drive seemed to write to the disk fine. If it failed on everything outright, I probably would have realized my mistake sooner.
