I have a utility for Spectrum Holobyte's old DOS game "Falcon 3.0" called "Gold Falcon Utilities Menu v1.2" ( https://www.gamers.org/pub/archives/cactus/fa … rams/gfutil.zip ).

I seem to remember that in ran just fine under real DOS back in the day, but when run under DOSBox I get the following error message:

Path not found in module GFUMENU at address 0255:6987

After installation, the utility menu is started by running "GFU.BAT" (which runs "GFUMENU.EXE"). All of the other utilities that come with Gold Falcon Utilities work just fine, it's only the Gold Falcon Utilities Menu that has this issue.

Would anyone know of a fix for this? Many thanks!

Yes, I encountered the same issue when I took a look at the Falcon Gold Utilities.

Guesswork on my part but I have the hunch the GFUMENU.EXE was built using some DOS command or OS facility that isn't supported/available under DOSBox (certainly not DOSBox Staging).

DOSBox is so amazing at what it does (and especially the modern versions), it's very easy to forget there's no actual OS running the show! 😀

I suspect (but not tested) that if you used PCem or 86Box and created a virtual machine, installed DOS and then installed the Falcon Gold Utilities then GFUMENU might work, as there'd be an actual OS to service whatever request is being made by GFUMENU.

Given that it complains about the path, I think I also tried changing the Gold installation folder from \falconcd to \falcon3 (or maybe the other way around) but that didn't help.

I tried that too, changing the paths, but had no luck either. I'm hoping that ripsaw8080 sees this post, as he's came up with all sorts of fixes for DOSBox things in the past 😀

BTW, I also tried several different builds of DOSBox, as well as the standard release, no luck.

It's an issue with DOSBox that should be resolved in SVN -- at least it works for me in a build of current source.

As a workaround for other builds that exhibit the problem, create a \DEV subdirectory off the root of the drive where GFU is installed.

Yes, it does, great work there ripsaw8080! 😀

I'd just add that after installing, running the utils would exit to dos, until I ran the run.bat file.

Looks like it resets a setting and deletes itself (so a run once bat file).

After that all the utilities worked!
