I just bought this card from eBay. Intel motherboard, 3 GHZ Intel duo core CPU, I don’t have the chipset number with me but…

Bottom line:
I can’t get load the drivers. “SB16 no DMA channel available” message.

This may be impossible with my BIOS but how does one enable “legacy DMA” mode?

Just thought I’d ask before I give up and pull the card.

If your board is using Intel chipset and is beyond 8xx, like 945, then most likely things won't work. A lot of legacy functionalities have been dropped at that point.

The previous posts of the thread mostly covered 845/865 chipsets which still retained a good amount of legacy stuffs like 81x, though it's indeed true that starting with 81x (ICH up to ICH5) DDMA is not supported anymore.

Yeah its about chipset.. but even if chipset is proven to work it could require some fiddling with resources.

AFAIK ALS4000 is one of the last often used soundcardss which is not supported by SB-EMU.

There is some info from my testing:

OS-Support-Summary Tab(sheet at the bottom)

The attachment SoundCardChipsetCompatiblity.png is no longer available

I not made it working even with I865 just with VIA chipsets, in other hand FM music worked up to Z97. This card sound quality or compatibility wasnt great in DOS, in other hand FM was great upgrade over no sound at all or pc speaker only.

Other chipsets compatibility results are in Kamerat PCI vs chipsets sheets, i added here lots of info too:

Im old goal oriented goatman, i care about facts and freedom, not about egos+prejudices. Hoarding=sickness. If you want respect, gain it by your behavior. I hate stupid SW limits, SW=virtual world, everything should be possible if you have enough raw HW.
