Hi! I'm totally sorry about this, but this is new, and I can't figure this out myself. I have a laptop as stated in the subject, and I've been trying to install a new hard drive on it. I have one to install. I found the site https://mans.io/files/viewer/295754/23 which describes how to install the drive. It mentioned to pull a lever, but I can't find the lever. A few minutes ago, I looked inside the compartment mentioned and didn't recognize the connection. 🙁 I looked elsewhere but saw nowhere the drive can fit. Do I have the wrong directions? How do I do it?

So you opened the compartment and there's an empty hole with a weird connector at the bottom? Sounds like you need a caddy, which is kinda unfortunate.

One guy who is an NEC expert on here is TheCreepingNet so maybe he will have ideas.

You need connector, or whole caddy. I think they are interchangeable with 4000 series:

MAZter, I thank you. Now, where can I get the caddy?

Frequently, cheapest to most expensive options usually go... buy dead drive with caddy still on (Search for known drive models. Examine pics carefully), buy dead/broken 2nd machine with HDD still in, buy working HDD with caddy on (Again, take a real close look at pics, do not buy from anywhere using stock pics only actual item pics), those are all eBay/Vintage-classified options, but lastly, NEC / IT supply specialist, "refurbished" or new drive with caddy on... which they charge a few hundred for because they keep all that old shit for business critical systems for corp clients.

I believe I found one. 😀 Thank you. BTW, it's just the connector and costs $9.99.

It might fit, and if it doesn't, I may be able to return it, and if it's too late, I'm not all that deep in the hole. 😀

That's not going to fit, you're wasting your money and your time.

I probably have too many old laptops.

What's even worse is the seller's time and money (in case of return).

No random adapter you find is going to work, you need that specific one for that model of laptop.

You need the whole caddy if you expect to get the drive in an out in one piece.

Isn't this the correct one?

That looks like the one for the original generations Versas (Ultralite Versa, Versa E, Versa V, Versa M, Versa P). Not sure whether or not the Versa 2000D used the same one or not.

Edit: the connector on the original Versa caddy and the photos shared earlier on looks to be different.
