I believe I found one of those rare mystery, AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 333FSB HP/Compaq OEM cpu's. The fastest Athlon XP AMD ever produced. I had to pay a rather steep 50$ for it. If it actually turns out to be real when it arrives, Ill post pictures of it and how I found it 🤣. Its quite hilarious.

Also picked up a ATI 9600XT All-In-Wonder to go with the recent 9600XT Pairing. I didn't realize the 9600XT AIW is the only time the AIW stock clock speeds are higher than the Non-AIW counter part.

Who decides what truth is, and what is their objective? Today’s falseness can reappear as tomorrow’s truth.

Actually, it's not the fastest. The fastest was 3200/400

Fastest by MHz, I should say 😁, Also with it being almost a +6% increase in clock speed vs -17% FSB I'd be interested in doing some comparison between the two. Should be an interesting battle. However I don't have a 400FSB Cpu.

Bought this nice little ISA sound card: Formosa MPB-000050. It matches all the criteria: good DOS compatibility from what I read, ESS 1868F chip, wavetable connector, output can be configured as line out or speaker out, gameport can work for MIDI, IDE port if needed, and an interesting compact triangular design.

I collest cpus and i dont have xp 3200/333 or 3200/400 cpus. Max i have is 3000+
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ – AXDA3000DKV4D Socket A
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ – AXDA3000DKV4E Socket A
AMD Sempron 3000+ – SDA3000DUT4D Socket A

Also did not know about AIW 9600XT core/mem clocks, that are higer than regular 9600XT. Still i think it does not matter if you oc your 9600XT, same cards. I have Sapphire ATi Radeon 9600XT (black pcb) with 2.8ns memory and easly it should go @ 350MHz ram, default clocks 500/300 and i dont oc usually at all.

ESS cards are indeed nice. I got a free 1869F from a chap I bought CRTs from, and it's amazing. I'm planning a K6-II+ build around it but have yet to decide on the GPU route.

I may follow a similar route... I am currently negotiating a K6-2+ to possibly go along with this card and with a Voodoo1 in a new setup...

Picked up a cheap Socket 7 SBC (IBM 586VE) and backplane. Surprised to find it came with an AMD K6-iii+/400 given the price. I built a system around it.

FWIW mine is a ATX based board (Epox EP-51MVP3E-M). I've been thinking of getting a K6-III+ as well but have yet to check the bay for some cheap deals.

GPU wise... I can either do the following:

a) Diamond Stealth S540 + Gainward Dragon 3000 combo (S3 Savage 4 + Voodoo 2 12MB - techincally MeTaL + Glide)
b) 3d Blaster Banshee 16MB
c) MSI Riva TNT2 Pro + Gainward Dragon 3000 (V2 12MB)
d) Geforce 2 Pro

I like to pair K6-II+ or III+ with Geforce3 TI200 64MB or Geoforce2 MX400 64MB.
Geforce 2 Pro would be my choice for easy build and i like Metal+Glide or 3DCIF+Glide.
For 3DCIF = Rage3 (Rage XL 8MB AGP or Rage Pro 8MB AGP). XL is bit newer, bit better.

Nobody tell LuckyBob, but I snagged a dual PPro board. Specifically a Micronics W6-LI S.

The attachment IMG_4100.jpg is no longer available

And it een has overkill amounts of RAM for 1996.

The attachment IMG_4101.jpg is no longer available

Now to figure out if I want to put NT 4 or 2000 on this absolute unit.

But yes. 1gb of ram is *just right* for a dual ppro.

my vote is for windows 2000.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Are there any performance issues with it running 2000? NT 4 always wants to fight me, which is why I am iffy about using it.

Not when you have a gig of ram and jam a SSD into it. ^.^ The dual cpu helps ALOT. keep it simple, dont install any services you dont need. 2000 was pretty okay. NT4 is *technically* a bit better, but 2000 is a night and day easier to use.

I usually don't get very remarkable parts compared to what others post around here, but this time I think I scored some nice stuff.

Truth be told, I got these in two separate purchases, but both from the same guy, a couple of weeks apart. I kinda rushed into getting first what I really didnt't want to miss and then gave it some thought before spending more money.

These I picked up last weekend:

The attachment Slot-A-mobo-and-cpus.jpg is no longer available
The attachment cache_banshee_cpus.jpg is no longer available

- Slot A w/ Irongate chipset, a 900 and 700 Slot A Athlons.
- 16 MB Voodoo Banshee
- A M919 cache stick.
- A K5-166, an i486 DX4-100 and two slocket adapters.

And these a couple of weeks before that:

The attachment Dual-Slot-1-Asus-P2B-DS.jpg is no longer available
The attachment K63-Tualatins_x2.jpg is no longer available

- A Dual Slot 1 Asus board including it's (what'sthe name?) terminator?
- A P III Tualatin 1200 and a 1400 Tualeron (I guess a bit roughed).

In the three years since I've fallen into this rabbit hole this was the first time I find someone selling a K6-3, a dual Slot 1 or a PcChips cache stick... Slot A, I had only seen one or two standalone CPUs so far.

Coincidentally, between those I also got two Slot 733 P IIIs and two Tualatin-S 1266 Mhz in a good deal. The 733 should fit nicely with the Asus board I hope.

I feel like Gollum right now 🤣

Forgot to mention a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP (as part of a parts not working pc) and coming soon a solo-1 pci to be used in my socket 939 Abit AV8 win98 build (athlon 64 3200+/fx5900xt or ti4200, haven't made mind up which card) as the ymf744 isnt playing nicely. Plan to put the ymf744 back into the slot 1 (p3 700mhz/voodoo 3 3000 agp) with sb-link as thats where the ymf744 feels more at home

MSI MS-6340 VER.5, my favorite motherboard for socket 462. I gave $25 but it was worth it.
