Oooh, that sucks. Good to hear is fine. But what a shame his collection rooms flooded.

My Sister and her family live in Tampa Bay Florida. I have relatives in Carolinas too, and Georgia. Texas too.
They are all Safe but they said there is allot of flooding and the power is out.
That means allot of businesses and civil building are closed. Banks are closed to.
CASH is KING when the power goes out.
People are going to Need CASH First so they can buy stuff like gas, water, food, transportation, hotels, etc.
Houses and buildings can be repaired and rebuilt. But I think the Priority is to get people safe in shelters with some CASH.

Nah I get it, I find living in the hills surrounded by tree's much more relaxing then for me what feels like open baron grassland suburbia.
It's like people that live near a waterway, for them the risk of flooding outweighed by the view.
but anyway each to their own.

To try and put a positive spin on the collection, at least it gives an opportunity for a forced clear out of the stuff you don't really want but can't bring yourself to get rid of.
Thats what I told myself when I had my "motivated clearance"

and of course, more importantly hope the house is repaired to a liveable standard ASAP

Looking up the news reports on Asheville, that whole area was hit extremely hard. Flooding, mudslides, extensive damage all around.

Having trees taken down is expensive A F, and they aren't always on your property either. When a downburst dropped a tree on my car, I took the payout and instead of buying a new car (since it was already the spare) I paid a tree removal company to take down every tree they thought was suspect. Cost $5000, and that was after we shopped around, and agreed to pay the guy in cash. Most estimates were $10,000+.

I guess on the bright side, I ended up with years worth of firewood out of it. Still sucked, and with all the competing things about home ownership that eat money, it's not trivial to throw five figures at a problem that might not even be a problem.

But the USA Government and National guard is already sending in help and supplies.
I have to check up on my Sister too. She is in Tamp Bay , Florida and some in Carolinas
Her husbands business transferred him to Florida from San Francisco Bay Area Paradise.
She has been through so many hurricanes since moving to Florida.

There are easier options like renting but the point still stands, it should've been done a long time ago even if it's expensive. It's not a matter of how peaceful or relaxing the environment is, it's about basic safety because trees fall randomly all the time even without a hurricane. Ignoring this is negligence.
