All I can confirm now is that my ASUS P65UP5 (with dual PPro) *will* boot from SD2ATAPI and real CD/DVD-ROMs, but not from the Tattie. :(

I have no problems accessing it from e.g. DOS, but booting doesn't seem to work. I may have to try again, perhaps gremlins were near..

Is that sintech's adapter ? if so, which revision do you have ?

I'll check the revision on Monday if I remember (it's currently in the retro-room at work) but in case I forget - yea, Sintech's thingiemabob.

I'll test the Tattie again soon, with the suggestions given above.

Good to know one of the other testers. Have you been in contact with him recently?
I have one of his revision 1 boards.
Last I heard from him was that he added a bus analyzer feature, possibility for a master/slave real device, and lots of improvements for ZIP drives used in audio equipment.
I haven't been in contact with him since.

His adapter helped me figure out a lot of my mainboards were flakey 😒 and while I'm very happy with it,
I'm still often left wondering if some of my more stable hardware has a glitch or if it's the sd2atap, or a compatibility issue.
Intermittent issues are the worst.

Have not heard from him either.
I did have a couple of sporadic read errors but only in one machine. I've installed various OSes (OS/2, OpenBSD) from CD/ISO on other machines without issue, and even on the one where it failed it worked fine on the second try.

Hi everyone. Stiletto contacted me a while ago, but this is my first post.

I make MacSD, a SCSI HDD and CD-ROM emulator with audio. Some new features were released last week for v2.0.0:

  • MIDI synthesizer and interface (works with SCSI on Mac and through PC sound cards)
  • PWM fan controller with temperature inputs
  • USB interface with MIDI and serial terminal

I posted some video captures of the synthesizer, for both Mac and DOS on the news page.

I'm happy to post here and answer any questions. Thanks.

welcome!!! macSD seems really nice indeed!
are there any plans to do an IDE version?

Cool,

It's mentioned that the macSD uses SCSI-2, is that running at 10MHz SCSI bus speed, if so, is it doing synchronous transfers and allows for disconnects ?
and is it possible to make the macSD into a 2"5 device ? (I can use one in my dec multia alpha UDB (if I ever get it set up again))

Thanks !

I knew your handle sounded familiar! You've got a very nice series of cards.

No plans for an IDE version. It looks like from this thread, such a thing already exists.

It runs at 5MHz max bus speed, async, no disconnects.

It doesn't exist as a 2.5" device yet, but it should be possible to reduce the board size.

Fixel, the creator of the 3DO ODE, and 3DO/NeoGeo HDMI kits has opened a form to gauge the interest in a generic IDE emulator for PCs, Consoles, and Arcade machines.

Let him know how much demand there is for one.

https://www.retrorgb.com/ide-pata-emulator-in … rest-check.html

Odd that, with the specs he's listing, hard drive emulation support isn't listed.
anyway, interest submitted !

Hard drive emulation is talked about near the top of the page, but yes it's supported.

The page you listed, yes, though not the google interested doc.

it sure would be nice to see another alternative on the market.
Personally, I've got one of sintech's boards, and it's fully functional, though lacks udma, cdrecording ( & tape drive) support.

it would be great if it didn't cost as much or more as the tattiebogle ode

The 3DO ODE is $250, and 3D0 Digital HDMI mod is $225. So I could see it being around the Tattiebogle price.

Sadly the cost of everything especially FPGAs is through the roof right now. The makers of the OSSC have currently shelved the OSSC Pro as the BOM has it costing over $1,000 with current part prices.

Is the Tattiebogle IDE Simulator no longer being made? Been out of stock for awhile now...

It's probably affected by the same component shortages that's been hitting everyone for the past couple years.

Fixel just posted a preorder for the first batch. $319, and says limited quantity preorder and price will change.

any idea how this thing actually looks like? size/connectors/etc?

No, it has an April-May 2023 estimated ship range. So it's likely not final yet.

It does list support for OLED, and rotary encoder.

Price when i'm looking at it now is set at 319 without shipping

optional LCD/OLED display with rotary encoder (separate purchase)
optional WiFi module (separate purchase)

the one option i'm not seeing is the ability to use a real device as master/slave together with the emulator.

Populated with 40pin male and 44pin male headers.

while this seems to imply that it could be small enough to fit into a laptop, which wouldn't surprise me

can reach up to UDMA6 speeds
high speed microSD interface

this would imply either a UHS-II card is needed or a UHS-I card supporting the DDR208 protocol to achieve the UDMA6 speeds.

8 and 16 bit supported

Does this imply it will be possible to use it on an XT ?

assume it means 8-bit (XTA) and 16-bit (ATA) IDE
xtide, despite the name, presents a standard 16-bit IDE ATA interface
XTA is very different and much more rare and it might be possible to use this to emulate the drive in my PS/1 if 8-bit really does mean XTA...

If it did what it promises and is small enough to fit in a 2.5" bay, I'd DEFINITELY buy one.

It would also be cool for the device to be able to access an external shared drive or NAS where all ISO images are stored. It says "wifi" but I fear this will just be for firmware updates and not network connectivity.

For now there's just not enough known about it.
