Is there any interest on making an excel sheet where we put the videocard model on one side, and then we list the recommended driver version for each os?
we know how many driver versions were released back then, but perhaps we can build a database with what drivers are good for each card/OS

something like this:

What would be better would be a list of games that break from driver to driver...

So for example, starting with GeForce2:
6.32 - baseline
12.41 - which games broke in this release?

Geforce3:
12.41 - Baseline (first driver for GeForce3)
28.32 - what broke in this release?

28.32 - Baseline (first driver for GeForce4)
45.23 - what broke in this release

Then anything greater than 45.23 is irelevant since everything after this driver supposedly has broken table fog.

What I'd like to know is if 12.41 breaks anything from 6.32 because I am using my GeForce2 in lieu of my GeForce3 for this reason. I'd rather the GeForce3 with the DVI output.

I don't see the benefit of including any other OS other than 98... XP and 2000 are the same, and there shouldn't be any differences between the operating systems with the same driver revision.

The exception is ATI cards which oddly have support for table fog with the later dirver versions for the later cards, but _only_ in XP and not in 98.

I meant more game/era than OS. Driver version per year will be a lot easier than listing out every single game.

Maybe use the Vogons Wiki?

I think a lot of stuff buried in threads could be migrated to the wiki for faster reference, especially if it's something super useful.
