Windows 7 and up were patched to break any game using Securom or a few other disk based DRM's. They literally blocked Windows 10 from loading the Securom driver files. You need to find a no-CD patched game executable. Your on your own on that one though. If the moderators have any issue with me suggesting this by all means remove this post. Given the circumstances I think this falls within the acceptable category seeing as how its the only way to get the game running.

It doesn't use any of those security protection systems. It was working fine, now won't do much. If someone here is knowledgeable in understanding why then that's be useful. AssemblerGames would be a good site to ask, but it's currently down.

If it used to work then and doesn't now you need to find out what you changed since then, and I really doubt it was Windows 10 updates. Chances are good that even if you find someone good at analyzing why games don't work they can't reproduce your problem, because it's something specific to your setup other than being at the latest version of Windows 10.

I would also check Event Viewer and see if it logs anything when you try to start the game.

This is bullshit, sadly typical of the tech press these days that's always racing to get stories out before the competition, with little thought for actually fact checking them. SecuROM works just fine in Windows 10, it's Safedisc that is broken.

Even now Google is full of articles claiming Windows 10 patched out SecuROM compatibility, despite it being utter nonsense.

The new security *fixes* for Windows 10 were also backported to Windows Vista and Seven and then silently, automagically installed via Windows Update..
Nice isn't it ? MS really cares for the users. They try to make sure even users of prioer OSes get an equally good experience whenever possible. 😀

All of the Windows programs I want to run are too old for Windows 8/10 so I have to run a virtual machine anyway! 🤣 Take that, Microsoft.

and no security update in Linux ever broke compatibility with anything 🤣
