Perhaps Microsoft does not care, but my point stands. There's a difference between offering Windows 10 for free, and making an auto-upgrade to Windows 10 for free that you actively have to work against if you don't want it. It's the auto-upgrade that I have a problem with. Some of us have good reason to stick with Windows 7. That's what the protest is about.

Yes, that's what the upgrade offer does NOW. The question is what will it look like if/when they make it an automatic upgrade?

I still haven't seen my Windows 7 box auto-upgrade.
Only the popup that Joey_sw showed. But just press the red X as usual.
So far, the auto-upgrade thing is still FUD.

In fact, since they say it's "free for a limited time", I would think that the popup will 'give up' eventually, rather than auto-upgrade.
Why else would they phrase it that way, and urge you to click the upgrade-button, if they're going to shove it down your throat anyway?

So far, uninstalling the relevant KB made this popup window go away completely. So there is not even an option to click by accident.

I'll have to wait and see if it forces itself back somehow. That would be a violation.

IMO anyone who does not see how wrong this is, is blind or does not care (when they should).
Simple as that.

I think you mean 'would be', rather than 'is', because Microsoft has not actually 'pulled' said 'stunt'.

That's how MS looks to me (Win 7): MS seems to be polite, respectful, and helpful. I sure don't want to have to dig up an old Windows XP box to run games on DOSbox! A free Windows 10 upgrade suits me just fine.

Yes do a little research like a good dev should do instead of stupid knee jerk reactions that punish the users as much as Microsoft seems to want to. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3080351 is indeed the correct article, and if you paid some attention to the KB Articles on the updates and read what they do instead of just blindly letting windows update install whatever you would have disabled the installation of KB3035583 and anything else to do with "ease of upgrade" and "telemetry" stuff if you also want to avoid the Cortana NSAware.

I can fully understand your disdain for the "Microsoft Nanny Service", but it doesn't require temper tantrums.
