My Pentium II Windows 95 machine is only a few months old, but I already want to build a new one. 😀
Right now the sticking point is the motherboard/CPU setup. I have plenty of options that don't require me to purchase new components, and a few options that would require a new motherboard.
Processor Options list:
Slot 1 (I have a nice Slot 1 board)
-Pentium III Coppermine 450
-Celeron 300 (bare Slot 1 board, needs cooler)
Socket A (decent board, no ISA slots for sound card though)
-Duron 750
-Athlon 900
Socket 370 (would need a new board for this)
-Celeron SL35S 367 Mhz
-Celeron something 700 Mhz
-Via C3 800 Mhz
I'd like to stick with the Slot 1 board, because it's the most expandable and has ISA slots. Unfortunately the Slot 1 CPUs I have are molasses-slow. I'd rather not have a Win 98 machine that's SLOWER than my Pentium 2.
Other hardware is pretty standard I guess. I'll probably try an ATi Rage card of some sort, maybe test out that MediaVision Jazz 16 card.
So any recommendations? I'm not averse to buying more computer crap on eBay, so if all of my CPU options suck (like the Via chip) feel free to recommend something else. 🤣 I'm also planning to test an IDE Compact flash adapter.
