I found this promising driver for ICH6 on this website here: https://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fil … 114&menustate=0 Sadly, I couldn't get it to work in a Win98 VM using virt-manager and KVM/QEMU. Here's what I tried, with the machine having an ICH6 virtual audio device attached:
When I go to the device manager as instructed, there simply is no missing chipset entry anywhere, I've expanded all entries to check.
When I go through "Add New Hardware" and let it scan automatically, it isn't detected as a missing potential chipset either.
When I go through "Add New Hardware" and then tell it not to scan but let me pick, and then I click that I have a disk with files, and then I choose any of the .INF files contained inside the actual vogons driver download (after extracting it in a "My Documents" subfolder) it'll tell me that this doesn't tell it something about the machine, as in I assume it's not a recognized driver.
Does anybody know what I potentially messed up? I tried to install AC97 with the old realtek drivers on this device before, but sadly virt-manager's AC97 doesn't seem to be picked up by Windows 98 like that. I briefly got Soundblaster 16 to work, but that didn't give me working MIDI but audio only, which wasn't very useful.
