Hello VOGONS, I'm so sorry for being inactive a lot. Life has gotten a bit more stressful and messy for me as i had to deal with a lot of personal stuff, especially struggling with anxiety and depression, and having Hurricane Milton come towards us a couple months back (thankfully my family and I still have our home)
But I really won't bother you too much with the details, since i want to showcase a build I've done back in July-September of last year which i still use. I do not know if this is the right forum to post this kind of build here considering the nature of these specs
And for those wondering about the heatsink situation from earlier: I found a better heatsink which fits perfectly (the heatsink someone provided to me here didn't fit with the bracket), and it provides really good temps now. 20-33 C on idle 😀
Here are the specs -
Case: Zalman T6 ATX Tower Case
OS: Windows 98 Second Edition
MOBO: ASUS Socket 754 K8S-LA
CPU: AMD Sempron 2600+
Memory: Samsung DDR M368L3323FTN-CCC (2x256MB) 400
Storage: 160GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 IDE
GPU: PNY NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 128MB AGP
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Live! CT4830 PCI
Monitor: Onn 22 inch 1080p 60Hz at VGA
Mouse: COMPAQ M-S34 4862A011 Beige White PS/2
Keyboard: IBM KB-0225 Beige White PS/2
A few notes:
- The board is a bit trashy since its obviously an OEM HP board. Sometimes the K8S-LA has issues with the sound card and it misbehaves especially with Windows 98; I also had to solder a new 82 ohm resistor in order to get PS/2 working again (which is 12 ohms over the 70 it needs) since it was knocked off the board, so that was kinda complicated but at least it works now
- I unfortunately don't have a CRT to pair with this build, simply because of the costs and space. I also share the monitor with my other PC which I use for data recovery and testing. Also don't judge me for using an FX 5500, that was one of my only best choices for compatibility and gaming on windows 98. I won't be playing a lot of DX9 games since this machine was just built to run some early to late 90s titles
To spare myself from so much insanity, I'll be replacing it with an ASUS K8V-SE Deluxe sold by ultra_code (hello!) when it arrives in a couple of days. I thought that it would be the best board for me; I kind of wish I picked that specific board a little while back instead of what I have now
I will post some pictures of it soon. Cable management is quite messy since i've been working and experimenting with this thing a lot to no end
Special thanks to Philscomputerlab for inspiring me to build this PC and the many helpful tips and resources he has on his YouTube channel and website, without him this build would never exist.
Nothing to see here
