Hi, I'm new to this forum. Currently I'm building an enthusiastic system based on SS7 K6-2+ with..water cooling! I have successfully tested it on basic K6-2 laying around, and temperatures were very-very low.
I'm going to swap this S7 motherboard with SS7
Gigabyte-5AA and get 384 MB PC133 RAM. So I'm buying K6-2+ to overclock, and here are 3 deals:
1. K6-2E+ 450APZ 1.7V - $45
2. K6-2+ 550ACZ 2.0V - $49
3. K6-2+ 450ACZ 2.0 - $34
So while I'd like to spend just a little less on this CPU, I want to know: which one would be more effective to overclock?
Thanks everyone, waiting for your responses.

My minimum goal is to reach 550-600 MHz. I would like to try even higher while keeping external cache ON.

Just get the K6-2+ and dont f..k your brains with watercooling and 384mb. CPU is cold as it can be without water (its mobile CPU in desktop format). RAM more than 128MB gives you penalties in speed in 99% of tasks. 550MHz will work on 600+ freq. without any additional movements.
PS. ALI Al 5 mobo is shitty choice in real life and most of benchmarks. Just get nice VIA MVP3 mobo 😉

Need help? Begin with photo and model of your hardware 😉

Thanks for replying. I'm not f...king my brains with WC since I have a ready-to-use system for S370. I just want to do extreme overclocking on it, xD. «Just for fun» yk, it's overclocking.
I'm just asking, is 450ACZ/APZ gonna overclock as easily to 60o MHz as 550ACZ does?
Also thanks for RAM advice, gonna just get one 128 MB stick.

Isn't ALI Al 5 better to overclock and (in case of Gigabyte GA-5AA) has higher overclocked FSB speeds?

So... watercooling is pet-project just for fun without any practical pluses for overclocking (1).

My choice for CPU is 550ACZ if the price near the same (2).

Most of VIA mobo's have 112MHz clock and up. So you get 112 x6 =672MHz (nice number for extreme overclock). I think the PSU and motherboards need more attention and mods for voltage stability .(3)

Good news! I'm possibly going to get Lucky Star 5MVP3 rev 2.0 - there have been reports of it working on 120 MHz FSB and K6-2+ on 2.1V instead of 2.0V while keeping L2 cache ON. Once I will get this mobo, gonna try that immediately with water cooling, this way it might have a benefit above air cooling.
Otherwise, it'll still gonna work on 100 MHz FSB x 2x multiplier (6x).
Btw, this motherboard is really popular in Russia for some reason.

*bump*
Hi everyone! I'm back.
Here are the results:
I tried 112x6 - got 656 (672) Mhz. The voltage is 2.5V;
I tried 120x5 - got 606 (600) Mhz. The voltage is 2.2v;
I tried just 100×6 - got 606 (600) Mhz. The voltage is 2V;

I couldn't resist but brag that I got overclockable K6-2+ for the first purchase.

The thing is, this BIOS version of LS 5mvp3 is not suitable for any K6-2+/K6-III+, gonna reflash it to the modded version as soon as I find some time.
