Ordinarily, I'd do this via PM, but I don't yet have access to that feature, so...
I recently finished building Aleks' ISA sound card, and I was hoping to ask some questions about getting it working. I had to make a few component substitutions for things that were no longer available or to keep the cost from getting out of control (I couldn't afford to use a mostly-tantalum capacitor build and the original ferrite beads specified are no longer manufactured), but all of the other components, including the op-amps, I was able to get my hands on.
My issue is that when I run the driver, it detects the OPTi controller, but it fails to detect the Crystal audio codec chip, and thus, it never finishes initializing the card. The AIF program succeeds in the first four steps (loading the configuration, detecting the OPTi controller and detecting the codec, and initializing the OPTi chip) but then the program appears to hang for a very, very long moment, and it then fails to initialize the codec.
I'm trying to figure out whether the controller chip is at fault, whether the codec chip is bad, or whether it's something in between. I will note that the program claims it's checking for a different codec chip than what was specified in the BOM on the website -- it's checking for a CS4248, and what I got was a CS4231A, which is what was shown originally. Was there a revision in there somewhere that changed the codec chip and the two aren't compatible?
If anyone else out there has built this card, or if Aleks or anyone else has some insight into possibly what I can check to see what's going on? I attached a screenshot of the display.
