Figured I would post the recent Athlon XP build that I did.

Chieftec Dragon Case
Sparkle 350W PSU
ABIT NF7-S 2.0
Athlon XP 2500 + @ 3200+
Thermaltake Volcano 7
OCZ Platinum 2GB PC3200 @ CAS 2
Built By ATi Radeon 9700 Pro
Audigy 2 ZS Value

Pretty close to what I had 22 years ago. That build had a DFI NFII Ultra Infinity for the motherboard and the Chieftec Dragon case was blue. This yellow version was "New Old Stock", never used.

looks great inside and out - i like Athlon XPs, always seem just right with Windows XP not just in name but also in being up to running just about any application of the early 2000's once given suitable graphics card. Even the slower XPs always seemed pretty good to me, like their Athlon forebears

Thanks. My cable folding skills were a little rusty. I had a 1600+ before I moved up to the 2500+.

This case was from better quality back than 99%, I still like them a lot. For an Athlon XP, the window fits the build.

My PII build will get an SLI Voodoo 2 and maybe an BX board upgrade today.

Greetings all,
A long-planned but very fiddly update to my dual-Athlon system. Upgraded from MP 2200+ to MP 2600+ (thoroughbred), and upgraded from noisy stock coolers to noisy Thermaltake Volcano 9s. A very tight fit and I do deeply dislike Socket A mounting systems. At least these coolers have the luxury of 3-wide socket hooks.

Only one DuctingMod installed because I’ve only been able to find this one example in the last 7 years! Got one lying around? DM me, hun. Would love a second one in this machine.

Also did a lot of ribbon cable folding since there are 4 of them all fighting for space and I wanted to neaten it all up. As aluminium cases go, this one actually has a lot more routing space than something like a Lian-Li PC-60, but it’s still a real challenge in a PATA/floppy system with a sound card front panel. Intake air is still a problem to be solved as a result.

A strange machine in many ways, but I did enjoy gathering all the “silver” drives and other panels!

AMD Athlon MP 2600+ 2133MHz

Terratec DMX 6fire 24/96
WD Caviar Blue 500GB PATA
BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 650W
CoolerMaster WaveMaster TAC-T01

What a beautiful build! I've never seen the DuctMode before 😀 Did you benchmark it ?

Albeit it will never be as good looking as that original one, that kind of duct seems like an obvious task for a 3D Printer ...

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

As far as I know that is a generic OEM AT case from the mid-90's. These are usually unbranded and would carry the sticker of the shop that sold the PC.

Yeah, sounds about accurate.

I'm trying so hard to find it though, in very good to excellent condition, online. I'd pay quite a bit for one. Sentimental value for that OEM case is why, and I want to rebuild my system (I still have all the original components).

I have this case, and probably wont need it soon. We cant buy/sell here, so feel free to contact me on Amibay under the same username.

Thank you, it's definitely come together quite nicely.
I haven't A/B'd the DuctingMod, the wisdom when it came out was that it would get you 1°C better temps. But since these CPUs don't have any kind of boost or throttling, that kind of makes no difference at all(?) For me it's a pure aesthetic choice.

I have considered this, and I may give in to the temptation at some point. But this is a hobby of patience, and for now I can wait.

My gateway 2000 setup.
-p233mmx cpu
-80MB ram
-s3 trio pci graphics card
-2GB disk on module
-pci USB card
-vibra 16 isa sound card
-Toshiba 16x CD-ROM
-floppy drives
-win 98/dos 7.1

A highlight is the gateway vivitron monitor I recently got. It is one of the sharpest and brightest CRT displays I've ever used. I understand Sony was actually making these with its patented Trinitron tech. I included a few pics below just to show it's image.

Things are pretty much where I want them other than some annoyances to look into down the line. The CD drive is a little hit or miss, generally works ok for copying files from CD to my HDD but flounders when streaming video or audio, and doesn't recognize CDs if they have moderate wear and tear to them. The disk on module is a little smaller than I'd like, but being able to use thumb drives in Windows greatly expands my storage, I haven't figured out drivers to use thumb drives in dos yet though. No 3d card yet. The monitor has some issue with the VGA cable where the signal can cut out or be distorted periodically, seems to be sensitive to movement on the plug end of the cable, but jiggling the cable can get it working again.

Aha, you know what, I've never even thought about that. Indeed there is no turbo button, but perhaps that is controlled via a bios setting? I'll have to look into that. I mostly use setmul to deactivate parts of the cpu if I'm running something speed sensitive. The mobo isn't designed for a 233mmx (its a socket 5 with FSB/multiplier settings that will officially allow for up to a pentium 133, but it so happens that the 233mmx cpu has an internal multiplier that will kick in as well when the board is set for a 1.5 multiplier) so I'm not really clear what would happen if I used a turbo setting.

Sometimes the Turbo can be enabled/disabled in BIOS, and/or by using key combinations like CTRL+ALT+(+) and CTRL+ALT+(-)

Does it have the right 2.8V Core voltage then, or is it running at 3.3?

It is running at 3.3 for about 6 months now.

After 3 years looking for this case I've finally got my retro PC right where I wanted it 😀
This case was used by AOpen and Compudyne, maybe others? All plastic and (mostly) screwless. You can mount the PSU and motherboard without screws, the drives still require screws.
It required some surgery to mount a power switch as the original 200w PSU has the power switch mounted IN the PSU and the cases uses a long plastic arm to push the switch.

P233MMX OC'd to 266MHz
32mb RAM
SB32 w/32mb
4mb Diamond Monster VooDoo1
4MB S3 Virge DX
PCI USB 2.0
CompactFlash -> IDE adapter

..... will not run Crysis.

Very nice machine. You have the identical specs and PCI cards to one of my machines except the USB controller and I’m running Win95 so I can run Quake 1 on the Voodoo.

Looks great. Personally I think a beige optical drive would look more in line with the theme. But, if you are happy that's all that matters.

Replaced a faulty PATA DVD-ROM in my Pentium 4 rig, so thought it was time to show it off. It is my profile pic after all!

A very cramped working environment with lots of ribbons, cables, lights, LEDs and other beautiful garishness.
Tried to get every silly thing I could think of into an XP Pro build, with Physx and "gaming" Network cards, and of course Raptors in RAID.
I love anything with extra memory sockets too, so the RAMDISK is ideal in this build.
