Got a batch of old motherboards today, there's also a power supply included, but I think it's a poor quality one, there's also a CD player, all stuff that might not work, but looking at the motherboards, it shouldn't be difficult to fix them, in one you can see some swollen electrolytic capacitors, a sign that if they are not broken we are very close.
Two are for S.462, ABIT and Gigabyte, the other is a PCChips the model should be i810 and something, I have a similar or the same one, I'll try to get them both.

AMD 286-16 287-10 4MB HD 45MB VGA 256KB
AMD 386DX-40 Intel 387 8MB HD 81MB VGA 256KB
Cyrix 486DLC-40 IIT387-40 8MB VGA 512KB
AMD 5X86-133 16MB VGA VLB CL5428 2MB and many others
AMD K62+ 550 SOYO 5EMA+ and many others
AST Pentium Pro 200 MHz L2 256KB

My latest pickup! It's not particularly extraordinary, but for one reason or another I couldn't ever seem to get my hands on one for a decent price.

A GeForce 2 Ti 64MB, with 4ns ram.

I specifically targeted 64MB and 4ns. ram. that way it's basically guaranteed to run at or above a GF2 Ultra. Since the core is die shrunk, compared to the ultra. It lowers heat/power and increases core overclock ability.

Excited to have it in the collection!

Yesterday I went through a system I bought a while ago to take a closer look at what’s inside. I bought it for the case so probably nothing special.

Soltek SL-54U5 mainboard
AMD K6-2 500 CPU
128MB RAM
ATI Rage 128 AGP
Noname Voodoo 1 PCI
Noname Sound ISA

as expected - but until you open it you always have high hopes for a gem 😉

Love the GF2Ti! A lot of GF2Ti have 4ns ram I believe, very dumb that they made it slower than the Ultra, since it can clearly be faster.

Those QFP RAM chips are notoriously unreliable. The SOP versions are much more reliable.

How do you check for the 4ns ram? I have a few GFS2Ti's I'd like to check.

Unreliable in what way, like bad overclocks? Or artifacting?

It works great "currently" I pushed them all they way up to 255Mhz (510) before I ran into any problems. Which is above rated speed although barely, and 25Mhz above the ultra stock mem clocks. 😎

Just look at the last number on the last row of your ram chips. Usually that number indicates your ns speed.
In this case it's 40 or 4.0ns. might also be T-5 or G-6 or similar, which corresponds to 5ns and 6ns ect.. ect..

Isn’t it ironic? Sometimes you get rid of stuff selling it off because you think you don’t need it anymore and a couple of years later you feel the urgent need to have exactly that item and of course you’ve got to pay up.

Another returnee, a Diamond Stealth S3 Trio64V+ … according to the seller tested, working, NOS and it comes with 4MB (I didn’t know that existed) … according to the pictures four chips KM416C254BJ-5, EDO DRAM, 256KX16, 50ns which should be .5MB times four equals 2MB if I’m not mistaken. But of course it was tested.

Anyhow, I just hope it works if it arrives.

They just die... I think I have only one card out with them that still works.

Took me a while to figure out which pins were bent and to straighten them enough to get the CPU in, as my eyesight is poor.

Some (can't recall who) mentioned the credit card trick: A standard credit/store card is exactly the correct width to go between the pins on most CPU's with pins. Just run it gently up each channel and then do the same for the 90 degree. Worked for me in the past...

What is that extra port for that looks like an audio jack?

I have the PRO version of this card and this cooler sucks. The design makes no sense at all, not sure how they thought it was a good idea.
If you are thinking about overclocking you should try to replace it.

Just got these. The first is Epox 7KXA Slot A motherboard. It came with Athlon 650MHz. I already left the CPU to my workshop and naturally forgot check the actualy type, but I think it is Argon as it has silver heat plate under the heatsink. I think Pluto has black one, but I may be wrong. Neat thing is that it even has the IO plate. Seller has buttloads of retro computer stuff and he said that he at one point tested it and it worked, but it requires recapping. And indeed, two VRM caps are bulging and there is probably zero stability left, so I need to do this one before I seriously start tinkering with it. Bought the CPU and MB for 40€. These Slot A boards pop up very rarely locally nowadays, but I really wanted one and I find the platform really cool.

Rest of the stuff is from different places, a new unused Cooler Master SECC cooler specifically "aimed" for Slot A and 750MHz Pluto.

Next is one of these cute tiny 386SX boards, specifically TMC/MyComp/MyNix/Megastar PAT3XAL (VER. 2.0) with 40MHz Am386SX-40. It came with an IO card and four sticks of RAM, my guess is that it is 2x1MB + 2x2MB sticks, but I didn't check them that closely. Gladly the Varta battery was removed early and it is very clean. There is tiny amount of corrosion on couple of jumper heads and some diode/resistor legs, but nothing big and all it should need is a bit more thorough clean and it is good to go. I paid 30€ for this lot. I originally bought this as a compact bench ISA test bed, but I'm currently waiting an AT desktop case to arrive and I may even throw this in it. It must look absolutely hilarious in a case that as far as I know should eat full AT size motherboards.

I also got few CPUs and some misc cards, but I need to sort those out. Pics may or may not come next weekend or so.

Heh, next time my full AT tower is de-encumbered I should stage my half baby AT board in it for the hilarity pics.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

It's not a terrible design, just incomplete. Needs a shroud: Re: What retro activity did you get up to today?

Leadtek heatsinks are just for show. Some look very kitsch too, with weird font choices. Never been a fan (badum tss). Also I think, should that fan fail, you cannot replace it with any other fan, because the header and the temperature sensor are proprietary.

That's indeed an audio jack for external MPEG audio out.

Quadro FX4400 (6800 Ultra 512MB) and Epox 9NPA+. Will be my new retro-LAN PC and the board got recapped already. Not my cheapest purchase for sure.

Personally, I'd count a V1 as a gem, even more if I'd got it "by chance" bundled with a case.
