Before, on Vogons and The Internet Archive, I've seen people post the Disk ID off Creative Labs CDs when asking about drivers.

For example:

Sound Blaster Audigy 4 (Tina) SBA4-CDT1D-W3-LB QS:1019132 R1 […]

Is there a rhyme or reason for how to figure out the CTxxxx or SB0xxx number from these Disk IDs that I'm missing?

I'd also like to have this info, like a map between card model number and CD (or floppy) disk IDs.

For example, I have a CT3930 which is a SB32 but it's also a Vibra and is non-PnP which doesn't seem to match with any of the driver distributions out there. So I've always been curious about what set of drivers came bundled with that card.

It would be an extremely helpful cross reference, if it exists. If not, maybe Vogons users could assemble it.

I also have that card and it's manual. Some where have the floppy disks but not sure what happened to the CD. I got it back in 1996 and have moved a few times and stuff got lost 🙁 ....
Too bad they do not list the cd part number in the manual or on a sticker on the back of manual.
added: I do remember the floppy set was odd with a Vibra16 disk plus others including some with SB32/AWE32 on the label....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

I wonder if a simple Python script could scrape INF files for device IDs, and look at that against a PCI ID database, like from https://pci-ids.ucw.cz/ and come up with a list of Device names by CD. Hmmm not enough hours in the day...

It would need isapnp-ids, not pciids.

Even then, pre pnp would have no identifier at all, other than card markings.

Most of the driver confusion surrounds the PCI cards, like all the Live variants that require different drivers.

Have a SB0100 Live! 5.1 that came with a w9x CD plus 2 cd's for my Live! Value CT4760 and 2 CD's for another Live! card. Will try and get the ID numbers off them and post here.

Awesome, I'll start tracking them. Should I do a google sheet for mass editing? I don't know what's the popular sharing method these days.

Here is the info for My cd: 2201us0000067 (do not think it is on archive .org), only supports Win XP

disk.ID:
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1
SBL-XPS1D-W1-US
(QS : 524658 - CT4870, 524689 - SB0100)
( R6 )

17 INFs dated Aug 31, 2001 show these:
CT4620 - SBlive!
CT4670 - SBlive! Value
CT4760 - SBlive! Value
CT4780 - SBLive! Value
CT4832 - SBlive! Value
CT4872 - SBlive! series
a. CT4831 - SBLive! Value,
b. CT4871 - SBLive! Value
MotherBoard PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0002&SUBSYS_002F1102
Motherboard device - SBlive! Value PCI\VEN_1102&DEV_0002&SUBSYS_80631102
SB0040 - SBlive!
SB0060 - SBlive! Value
SB0100 - SBlive! 5.1
SB0101 - SBlive! Value
SB0102 - SBlive! 5.1
SB0105 - SBlive! series
a. CT4790 - SB PCI512,
b. SB0150 - SB PCI512
a. CT4830 - SBLive! Value,
b. CT4870 - SBLive! Value

So those cards are supported by that CD. Most of my other CD's only have a few .inf's and support only a few cards.
Have run into some issues figuring what CD supports what card after 2001.
The SB Live + Audigy CD's do not have specific .INFs but scrambled .dat files, those are numbered but may not reflect the supported cards.
Will do some deeper digging......EDIT: fixed some stuff.
added: So maybe better to make a PCI ID for each card first and then create list of those and add what CD supports them ?

Yes I think that's the way forward. I've been looking at a few PCI ID database sites for Creative cards. I think I'm going to write a Python script that scans the CDs, then correlates Disk ID to PCI IDs. And possibly PnP IDs for ISA stuff.

Here is what I got from my five SB Live CD's, attached as text with CD# and disk ID, Card name and PCI ID. Have not done anything with the other Creative cd's yet....
Am playing with Excel to see how easy to add them...might be a long project 🤣

I've added these as comments for most Creative SB16, Live and Audigy CDs last year. There's no correlation you should rely on. You might rely on the "version" number part to differentiate between various releases from the same series, but using the file modification date of the file would be more precise. Use these ids just to identify a particular CD, so you don't download the same one for the second time or if you have a damaged iso.
