Hey guys, i`ve been surfing a bit and found two heatsinks that would be cool upgrades, and easy to swap fan if need to. My question is would i take more beefier looking heatsink or smaller that reminds to original is enough? I plan to upgrade with Tualatin 1.4 CPU in a future so i`m kind a in wonder what to choose between those 2 i found soothing?
Smaller one looks aesthetically better , but i`m in wonder will it be enough or its better to get bulkier one?

I think both would be good for a stock Tualatin, these are quite cool cpus (in both senses 😀 )

Thanks for let me know. 😀 I got eaten by retro nostalgia bug recently and want to build me one strong machine for 1995-2003/4 era of gaming, personally my favorite for rpg games.

The second one is an Athlon XP heatsink, it came with the official box from AMD. Cooling performance is great, it's usually got a copper bottom plate but this looks like it's the aluminum version. The fan is high speed and quite loud. Also note that it's a slim fan (half height), these could be a bit harder to find if you need a quieter one. You can probably mount a normal sized fan but then it'll look crappy because the fan is as tall as the heatsink itself. You could also use a fan controller, that's what I do.

Does your case have a window on the side panel? If not how often will you have it open to stare at the cooler? The heatsink with the longer fins should give more surface area to allow the fan to run at a slower speed and still end up cooling better.

Its always closed, but its way much noiser then my newer computer, so i want to make it cooler. Both of these models have longer fins then original one. and its easier to mount different cooler if i want to, mine is mounted withotu screws , just plastic connection, removing it would certainly needed some modding to put bit or regular one new silent fans.
I plan to get one of these in day or two to give it a go. 😀

I will get that cable that silence the fan additionaly, yes. Thanks for explaining that bigger one cools better. I will look for them on ebay in 2/3 days and choose one that have screws on fans, so if i ever want to replace it would be easier swap.

Wish me luck. 😀

Tualatin came, as well as bigger heatsink (bit different then from pictures provided, similar enough), i have screws for replacing the fan if needed. 😀 Both new old stock.
