Have you confirmed there is no option to disable the internal trackpad? Maybe there's a hotkey to do that? Every Acer I've ever owned had one such hotkey.
Maybe screenshot the relevant BIOS setup pages...
By the way you don't really need a real DOS boot disk for these experiments, the DOS from whichever 9x setup disk you are using is fine...
And you don't need USB mouse drivers either, because the goal here is to test the BIOS' PS/2 emulation. So Microsoft Mouse or CuteMouse are just fine. Windows setup is going to expect a PS/2 or serial mouse anyway.
i don't have any option for mouse\touchpad on BIOS....
i was testing that drivers no boots.. but no luck 🙁
even the cutemouse don't works 🙁
I think You need to update BIOS first 😀 There is a BIOS file from 2008, so maybe there is a solution
help for update, please?

It is a problem if Floppy doesn't work, but if it works, it shouldn't be any. Download bios file and update utility and rest is easy.... 😀
i can use USB Floppy drive without problems.. the problem is find the right update BIOS 🙁

Judging from the two websites I've found, you might have to determine your graphic chip first: either with Intel's GMA 900 (integrated with 915GM/915GMS chipset), or with discreet ATI Mobility Radeon X300/X600/X700 GPU (in that case your Aspire 1690 uses 915PM chipset). However I'm not 100% certain of the validity of those websites; use them with caution (back up your current BIOS before flashing a new one).

All said here!!! Don't forget to backup old working BIOS before erasing the eeprom, and flashing this BIOS that Dormcat linked You!!!

1. Any utility you need to update BIOS usually has the option to backup existing BIOS, either with command line or graphical UI. Acer used Phoenix WinPhlash to have the entire process automated.
2. Those were not the BIOS of your graphic cards/chips but different sub-models of Aspire 1690: some with 915GM/915GMS chipset and Intel's integrated GMA 900 GPU, others with 915PM chipset and ATI's discreet X300/X600/X700 GPU (all of them belonged to ATI's M2x generation). You have to look for the sub-model of your laptop first.
3. Phoenix WinPhlash was designed to work under Windows XP.
i try it.... open a little window showing the steps... then reboot... but nothing changed 🙁
i used the MiniXP from Hiren's boot, but i get an error 🙁
