You've mentioned "touchpad" so I assume it a laptop; what's the make and model?
I've installed fresh Win98SE on Socket 754 desktop computers with USB mice; cursors were active automatically during installation.
laptop model: acer aspire 1690
can i add the chip set drivers on setup?
yes the chip set is needed... ok i have 'Mobiler Intel(R) 915GM/PM Express': i don't have sure is CH6 or above...
i have the drivers, but how can i add them on setup(for i get the mouse)?
the Win9x Quick Slipstreaming: Win9x Quick Slipstreaming Utility is the solution or is for pos-installed??
I dont think you can use USB mouse for installation but its simple with keyboard. Just use Enter, Tub and Esc keys)))
Need help? Begin with photo and model of your hardware 😉
that i know.... but, maybe, i can with Win9x Quick Slipstreaming...
the new folder is created(on the DLL is) but i need ask: the drivers\updates are added on setup or installed pos-setup?
no luck with Win9x Quick Slipstreaming 🙁
is there another way?

One more chance?

i'm sorry, but, speaking on Windows 98 CD, where i put\add the driver for i use on installation\setup?
You don't really need to do anything, I'm quite sure the BIOS for that laptop will automatically simulate PS/2 mouse from USB mouse . If not, maybe fiddle with the BIOS setup for "Legacy USB" options or the like.
The miniwin / DOS-based part of the 9x setup is not going to use USB drivers no matter what.
my BIOS don't have that option 🙁

If it's really a laptop from the 2000s I really doubt that. Can you use USB keyboards in the BIOS setup program? Can you use USB keyboards in DOS? It's highly likely your BIOS just has this by some other name or even permanently enabled. Have you just tried booting DOS and using a plain old PS/2 mouse driver like cutemouse or msmouse ?
i can use the USB Keyboard on BIOS and on Setup... but why i can't use the USB mouse? i must use the '/l' setup parameter?
tested with '/L' parameter but not working 🙁
is Windows 98 setup bug?

Maybe there is some way to select between the internal touchpad and the external mouse? You have to check the BIOS for hints, test whether the mouse works in plain DOS, and forget about Windows setup until you can get the mouse working in plain DOS.

Looks like Aspire 1690 was designed in 2004 and reviewed in 2005, with Intel 915 series chipset. I'd expect a computer of that era built upon a retailed desktop motherboard would have the option of enabling / disabling the support of legacy USB keyboard or mouse. With OEM boards and laptops, however, I wouldn't be so sure if the option was available to users. The manual provided extremely limited info on its BIOS:

Some BIOS had separate USB keyboard and mouse support, like my (late) Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M:
Probably the BIOS of your Aspire 1690 had similar settings (but not accessible to normal users).

Is there an option to disable the touchpad - I think I've got at least one Acer which doesn't recognize USB mouse in BIOS if the trackpad is
enabled...

the usb mouse is detected after detect drivers on installation. after install the chip set, i can't use the usb mouse, only after install the 2.0 usb.
my bios don't have mouse options, only infrared, that i disable... unless i must update the bios 😉
i download these ima: https://www.philscomputerlab.com/dos-boot-dis … -easy-fast.html
i get the mouse drivers(lmouse), but no CD-ROM... so i add the mouse drivers on my Win98 boot disk 😉
the PS/2 is found, but i belive that it's the touchpad... but it's damage...
so what more mouse drivers i can test for get the mouse USB driver?
