I cannot run these two games in any way under Windows 10. Both games crash when starting a race. Patches for XP and newer graphics cards were released for Castrol, but they do not help. With the patch for XP, the game still crashes when starting the race, and with the patch for GeForce cards, the game does not start at all, showing only a black screen for a split second. For Final Racing I also found a patch for XP which also doesn't help. I know there are people who run both games under Win10 without any patches by default, but for me it doesn't work like that. Anyone advise something on this topic? Here is my hardware configuration:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
RAM: 16 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER - 460.97 driver
MOBO: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite - BIOS F31q
Sound card: Realtek HD Audio - 6.0.9079.1 driver
OS: Windows 10 PRO x64 PL - 19042.685 build

Update: I was able to run Castrol after installing the patch for XP and GeForce cards, and after changing the letter in the F1.cfg file to the one under which I have installed the game disc image. But with Final Racing, I still haven't been able to do anything. A game with the XP patch crashes when loading a race, with the official patch it displays a black screen, and without patches it crashes also when loading a race with the fact that it shows the HUD before but without the loaded board (HUD is on a black screen). Anyone with a GeForce RTX could check Final Racing on this card? I bet the game is incompatible with this card

I was able to run Final Racing via DgVoodoo2.72 (and without it) under D3D11 and D3D12 APIs in higer resolutions and 8xMSAA (but if I see correctly shadows doesn't work) without any aditional config files (the game needs D3drm.dll btw) and patches, only used setup fix to install it and then I copied ISO contents to C:\Racing.
Only the main menu is a bit clunky, but gameplay is smooth and fast.

Edit:
Framerate must be limited to 30-35FPS or compatibility set to Win95 otherwise opponents are too fast and there are camera/steering problems.

Got few warnigs and erros:

I've got a bit of bother with Final Racing. With dgVoodoo2 I can play the game fine, but not only do the car textures appear as shadows (as per shot above), but the interface (countdown times, top-right speedo, map) all have black behind them, which looks pretty bad.

I've seen this game can run fine on DxWnd, as seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdhksNUWdG4 but the DxWnd dxw files I tried from https://sourceforge.net/p/dxwnd/discussion/ge … ead/d8fd5d9759/ don't work (even when I've updated path, etc) - the game boots a window (or fullscreen) then just closes.

I tried the patch from the Russian site and tried to work out how to use their DxWnd files, but didn't do anything really.

I'm running a version on CD-ROM from Midas Interactive (part of the ALL IN ONE - RACING GAMES multi-disc big box release). In-game it calls it "Final Racing - Cyber Space 2001 - Hot Blood Version".

Any ideas or things I can try, to make it look slightly less awful for a YouTube video?

Sussed it, without needing DxWnd or anything. I did get the game to run from original CD-ROM, when installed to it's default C:\Racing folder, but I needed to use Win98 or Win95 compatibility (plus dgVoodoo2). However, this flooded every 2D HUD transparent area with black.

So I got into Application Compatibility Toolkit and discovered the halh.exe just needs EmulateCDFS applying to it, nothing else. Now it works without the transparency errors! There is a bug where your ship's shadow replicates the textures of the ship, instead of being black though. This might be cured by DxWnd, but as it occurs in both the software and hardware versions of my copy of the game (with or without using dgVoodoo2 - which mainly prevents some other bits going see-through and allows higher res), it might just be my copy...

Though of course, run Final Racing with a frame rate locked to 30-40fps otherwise the rival cars will race off and you'll never catch them!

I found the bug and fixed the shadow in Final Racing, now it's black.
