This thread is about any new problems you are having with the forum software that didn’t exist before an hour ago, but now exist. Please say something here if you have any of those.

Yes, it’s my fault.

The "New Posts" section seems to reset very often since the update.
I think it already reset two or three times today. Is this supposed to be like that ?
edit: at least four times

I also felt like it seems to be refreshing too often, but didn't have numbers to put to it.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I think it used to be a week or two before it cleared, but these days it looks like it is 5 or 6 times a day.

edit: ok this seems to be ridiculous today, I'm counting at least three times in the past 3 hours.

This is due to legacy data in the database not caused by the update.

This page is designed to show new posts since the last time you visited. Previously there were upstream defects that caused last visit time to revert to an earlier time (reported in 2015). However, it is also possible that the change is itself buggy. It should be the case that the “new posts” list will reset itself after you don’t visit for an hour and then will show all the posts since the last time you visited.

This link could be changed to a list of all unread posts instead, which never resets until you visit an unread post or manually clear the list, if people think that would be more useful.

Ok, that kinda makes sense, so the previous behaviour wasn't quite correct.
I'll see how easily I get used to it.

Ok, if the new posts should show me the new posts since my last visit, then something is definitely odd.
Between my previous post here and now, I only watched two posts 5 minutes ago, then checked the "new posts" and it says, "No matching posts were found."
Fairly certain that new posts were made during my sleep and I haven't visited the forum while I was sleeping 😀

edit: and now another 8 hours or so later, there is only 1 new post 😀
oh wait, suddenly there's 2.

edit: I should rephrase that, it wasn't one new thread, it was an existing thread with a new comment. better said, two.

edit: at 20h40 I see 29 new posts. Not having looked at all of them yet, at 21h10 I see 4 new posts.

Is this really expected behaviour ?

I am finding that the search is even less effective than it was before, I get no results for Hynix for example, and other things I know there were threads on are not coming up. Several times, I have had to find things I remembered seeing by trying to remember a time frame, trying to remember participants, and going to their user profile post listing to dig it out. So the posts are there, but search ain't finding them.

Still something seems hinky with new posts... for instance, 10 mins ago, new posts, it told me there was only one at 00:03 my time, so nothing in 12 hours since? Weird. Though mention above that it might be only new new topics not replied to topics might be the thing, because it is a new topic. My egosearch is showing 3 new replies to threads I have posted in since that time, that are bright white so haven't "seen", previously those would also appear in new posts list.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I cannot reproduce this. Searching for Hynix provides many results, including this post. Could you provide an example?

The list of topics in the new posts is any topic with a post that is newer than your “last visit” time. It seems like upstream maintainers don’t understand the code and keep adding more stuff that doesn’t fix the root problem. The last visit time is updated on a global timer which runs once per hour for all users without restriction, so if you log in 1 minute before the global timer triggers, you will only get 1 minute of old posts before your “last visit” time updates. Every time your “last visit” time will update on the global timer, to whenever the last time you loaded a new page was. It’s a bad design, I am not sure why it is worse now than before, I will try to fix it here at least.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Weird, hynix was producing no results here earlier... now it does as you say. IDK if a flag got hung up or something.

Whatever has been changed, I don't like it.
Quite often I will view the list of new posts, browse through a few of them and then when I hit new posts again it shows an empty list. Within a time period much shorter than an hour.

Got the same problem.

Also most of the times if I got 2 or 3 pages of New posts and while reading a couple of topics and want to go to the next page it will go back to the New posts page which then only shows a list of New posts since a couple of minutes thus loosing the rest of the New posts. Don't like it at all.

Hi,

I am not sure this is either new to this update or considered a bug, but I have hit some weirdness while trying to attach jpg compressed files to a post.

I was attempting to attach 2 jpeg files which are both below 2MB in size :

The attachment limit2.png is no longer available

but got this error

The attachment limit.png is no longer available

I have attached both jpeg files to this post inside a zip file .

The attachment problem_jpegs.zip is no longer available

They were meant for this thread : ATI VGA Stereo F/X Pinout

EDIT: Actually, I just noticed that this issue has been mentioned as far back as 2020, based on searching for "Couldn’t recompress the image to the maximum file size of 2 MiB. Please manually resize the image."
search.php?keywords=Couldn%E2%80%99t+recompre … esize+the+image.
