I don’t suppose there’s gerbers for this are there? I don’t mind paying the price for it but I like building them. I honestly don’t even need one with the PicoGus being available now but I do like to have actual hardware for some situations vs emulation.

I have a weird bug. When using Ultramid I sometimes get hanging notes in Tyrian 2000. is that normal?

I haven't had this so far - but ofcourse Tyrian sound system is so weird it would not surprise me to have more issues than we already know
maybe it worths to test a different ram stick on your gus card - that's all I can think atm

Damn, didn’t happen in other games so far. I don’t have other compatible RAM at the moment. I‘ll do some more tests, thanks.

EDIT: Really only affects Tyrian. So it might just be Tyrian being weird again. I‘m generally finished with tinkering now. Here a few final pictures:

I have an Orpheus 2 and a p233Mmx machine.
I had a problem running orpheus.bat in autoexec.bat, which worked only on every 2nd boot. The problem was that the env wasn't set.

When env wasn't set, the orphenv.bat was present in the c:\orphinit directory.

The solution to this problem was to add the "timeout 2" command into the orpheus.bat file between running orphinit.exe and calling the env.bat

I tried to run this with and without smartdvr.exe with the same result.

I'm running MS-DOS 7.1, and I have a 4 G B CF card as a mass memory with one large fat32 partition.

Hi there,

After my P1 mmx died I'm trying my Orpheus II on a P3 win98SE machine.

The problem is that after inserting the card (with a x16gs wt) into the ISA slot and rebooting the system, windows recognises the card as Ultrasound PnP, but it doesn't install nor found any driver for it. After messing around I managed to get into windows but GUS is not working so everytime I reboot i get this "viwd.vxd" error...

I thought that windows should install the drivers automatically but it doesn't seems to be the case.

Hello!
Please visit https://pcmidi.eu/orpheus2.html for instructions. You will find a nice guide there. Cheers!

I feel so dumb, I was trying to install with the same files I did it for my mmx machine which was DOS based...

I'll take the opportunity to make a dual boot better

I managed to install the drivers without issue on Win98SE, but one question has arised (haven't tested) If I reboot to DOS do I need to install the DOS drivers in order to make them work properly? Would that overwrite Win98 drivers?

Sorry if it's silly...

I did a clean install of Windows 98SE and managed to get Crystal and GUS working without any trouble, however, 2 weird things are happening to me right now.

The first one is that OPL didn't work after installing the drivers, so I had to manually reinstall them, after that OPL sounds but is WAY TOO LOUD in comparison with other MIDI solutions (like FM or GUS)

The second one is that no matter what I do, I can't get an external device to work, I'm currently with a Roland MT-32 and can't get sound out of it. I tried to manually Add a compatible MPU-401 hardware but the result was disastrous I have to reinstall Windows altogether because I found myself on a startup loop (mouse cursor showing and no service loading)

Did a third reinstall of Windows and now I got a BSOD when trying to install the Yamaha/OPL driver from the Windows 98SE CD...

none of what you describe is normal behavior , I suspect something else is going on with your system
manually adding the Roland MPU-401 device is normal since it's not a PnP device
you should make sure you are not having any resource conflicts (ports, irq) and also make sure that the default pcmidi IRQ2 is actually available in your system , you might have to use another IRQ if the target system is anything newer than a p1

I'll try to change the IRQ

After my post I did a 3rd fresh install and managed to get almost everything working but when I installed the Roland I lost the OPL, after trying to reinstall it in device manager it asks me for msopl.drv from the Windows 98SE CD, If I put it it fails and then shows me the BSOD I just posted.

After that I install the driver that is in the pcmidi website but even though it appears as a MIDI device it has no sound.

you should be able to use the orpheus2 driver for the OPL installation - windows should auto-detect some "adlib gold opl3" device , you can leave as-is or tell windows to look at orpheus2 crystal driver for the rebranded driver

in the end you should have these devices -for the CS4237 part of the card:

PV2860.jpg

also try and reserve irq/dma from BIOS , it will certainly help
and also try to setup your chipset/vga/controller drivers before installing any sound ones
sadly the windows bsod codes etc don't translate to anything useful AFAIK

Gonna start from scratch again... I did install all the devices shown in your picture, however choosing OPL didn't produce any sound until I installed the "win98" driver, but then that clashed with the pcmidi or something else.

My system is:

Pentium 3 1.0 ghz
Motherboard Biostar M6VCG
512 MB RAM
HDD 10GB
IDE to SD 128GB (not formatted yet)
Voodoo 3 1000 AGP
Orpheus II (connected via midi out to a Roland Mt-32 or SC-55, not gameport)

Third Windows 98SE install.

Installed only the first driver (Crystal) before GUS and PCMIDI. Sound is working, kinda but it doesn't stop any sound keeps on a eternal loop. For MIDI, FM is working, but OPL even though it appears as installed doesn't produce any sound.

I'm still thinking about installing the GUS and PCMIDI part...

that means there is an irq/dma conflict , you should go to device manager and see what is allocated for the crystal devices
