Intel Core i5-3450 @ 3.10GHz
Single Thread Rating: 1871

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+ … 9+7950X&id=5031
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
Single Thread Rating: 4285

let's include the fact that ryzen is twice slower in dosbox than intel:
4285 / 2 = 2142

2142/1871 = 0,14
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X is 14% faster in dosbox than Intel Core i5-3450

great 😀
i hink i will get it just for dosbox 😉

let's say i would like to update my i5-3450 to latest ryzen.
I just have to get:
- new board,
-new ram,
-new cpu
-new mounting kit for the cooler
right?

NO!

i also need to get:
-a scalping kit for the cpu and
-a few separate cpus in case i break them in the process, and no guarantee i will succeed anyway so let's not sell my i5 yet in case i have to go back

that company is a sick joke...

Dude. Just stop with the nonsense. You're making a fool of yourself.

This is the exception.

Was Intel ever really gone?
Most companies I support have intel only policy, even for workstation/server class machines.

Personally, I haven't purchased a new computer in years but I'm no power user.
Instead, I supply my family, friends and myself with work hand-me-downs

Most of them are Intel only because of contracts they cant get out of, Intel is know for these shifty practises in tying corporations to their hardware via servicing contracts too good to refuse.

100% this. Intel has a long and storied history of this kind of garbage.
OEM contracts are the only thing keeping them relevant at this point.

i may be not right here, but i suspect, that the fact that amd (as asked by users) decided to not require new cooler for its latest ryzens, by applying a lid of different thickness, caused ryzen to overheat, hence delidding gives so much (20 C degrees) in its case.

Other cpus don't need delidding that much as they don't force old coolers compatibility

(That was just a hypothetical claim as i don't plan to upgrade anytime soon. Mainly cause cpus moved out of stagnation, so i will try to wait for the next stagnation period to begin before the upgrade, so i don't end up with a junk quickly.)

We would still be stuck in same said stagnation if AMD hadn't released Zen to begin with.
Intel was perfectly content to try and keep us there.

it has nothing to do with amd.
its about bigger is better
amd was stuck with its global foundries too just like intel is now with its intel foundries, and apple with motorola first and with its/motorola/ibm later.
it is the smartphones revolution that pushed tsmc beyond intel.

amd still has hidden potential if they move to new coolers.

apple/qualcom/intel are not blocked by old coolers support policy hence they are performing better now

intel has hidden potential too once it moves to tsmc process in his next series of cpus (but i guess it may also take a series or two till they adapt to foreign process)
intel already abandoned its new factory in israel
the german/polish factory is not sure too
i guess malesian one too
i guess they won't go back to their own process in the future (if nothing happens to taiwan which is not sure too)
samsung moved to tsmc with its galaxy ultra too
nvidia moved to tsmc
tsmc is the biggest, hence winning

Lithography is hardly the only facet to this. One process isn't always directly comparable to another.
Generally smaller is better simply because it increases efficiency and thus lowers thermal output.
Perhaps Intel will find a magic packet so to speak and become super duper efficient overnight with a process shrink.
I kind of doubt it though, and it seems like they do as well as they are pushing more and more in the 'P' cores and 'E' cores dynamic.
At this point AMD's rather modular chiplet/chip approach they have been building over the past 7 years or so is paying off, big time.
That is why they are ahead of the game, not TSMC smaller manufacturing process.
My 2 cents.

"Most companies"

I don't see that. You mean companies in a particular niche or market, these surely do it when they deal with very sensitive data and make use of a NDA, but most companies don't do that. Most don't even force the use of such software. I have been working for 20 years and none of the companies I worked for did it. Not even the companies my parents have worked for in the last 35 years.

In the Philippines, the VAT rate is set at 12% and is applied to the taxable gross selling price of properties and goods along with the gross value of service receipts and property leases.

And what is the point of sharing this, if I dare ask ?

I've worked for around 6 different outsourcing companies for countless number of clients in 2 different countries (Australia/UK) in my 20 year career.
Common sense says once a company reaches a size, maybe 20+ PC's just to keep things manageable will default to big brands like Dell or HP default to Intel as driver support is a a safe bet, and due to budget and ease settle on a specific model range. So while it may not be a policy in writing, a standard kind of just happens.

but whatever, this whole post seems like bit of a troll and if people want to believe Intel is back or de-lidding CPU's is an important consideration when buying CPU's, most companies, let you go out and buy any old computer, or whatever the next crazy statement is then I wish them the best, Doesn't effect me playing NFS Porsche 😀
