At least on mine, the foam was just held on by sticky velcro pads, so you can rip it out and try different things until you find something you like. I just used the old pad to make a pattern and cut some ~1.5cm thick dark grey padding foam to fit. It sticks to the velcro and does the job.

Any round ear pads with those measurements will do. Things to note:
- The ear pads are clip attached to the headset's audio drivers. You should be able to rotate the ear pads counter-clockwise (when facing the inside of the headphone pads/driver) to remove the pads.
- The original ear pads are glued to some plastic discs. I had to cut and tear off the fabric to remove the old pads
- Even after cutting some holes to expose the old clip holes for the plastic mounting discs, sliding the pads back into the drivers was a tight fit. I got there, but it took some effort
- The headphones are a tighter, but plush fit after everything is said and done

Well, my question was about the foam around the head... Earpads are not such a problem. You can still buy replacement earpads which will fit without any modifications (ie. https://allegro.pl/oferta/nauszniki-akg-k300- … kosc-9409994825 ). VFX-1 uses AKG headphones - pretty popular K-301 (and similar) models use the same parts. In fact I bought a set of AKG headphones to service one of my VFX-1 HMDs (which is missing one of the transducers).

Anyway, these headphones are so nice I now have a dilemma if I should part them out to service VFX-1 or leave them be (just replacing the earpads on them ;D )
