Picked up this 'mystery box' last night for next to nothing. The ad didn't have any specs, just a few not great photos, but I could see a graphics card in there with VGA and DVI, PCI slots, and what I thought looked like a P4 cooler. So I took a punt.

It's turned out to be an AGP FX5200 card, 768MB of DDR, an Athlon XP2500, and an ABit NF7 board. I'd call that a win!

The engineers have a lot of imagination when it comes to place the atx connectors at impractical places

But nice nforce board ! And i quite like the case

It's me on this topic . I managed to get wavetable works but I can't reproduce it. It seem the wavetable part share the same adsress of MPU-401. But it's very driver dependent. Plus, you can't use MIDI port and/or wavetable connector + wavetable chipset at the same time.

If a specific driver has resurfaced since my last message, I'd be happy to test it.

Nice find. Abit NF7-M is the nForce2 IGP version. Geforce4 MX IGPU with DDR400 cl2 dual-channel may actually be faster than the FX5200 64bit in some win98 titles 😁

You can have it if you want, just pop over to the UK! But really it's pretty beaten up, the top panel has scratches and light rust, front panel is scratched up with bits missing... I'd have no guilt scrapping this one.

I was planning on moving these parts on but I might replace one of my less interesting P4 builds with this instead.

Scored a Radeon 9800SE AIW 128MB... awaiting its delivery tomorrow 😀

Thanks but i try to limit myself to 4 or 5 systems in cases because of the room they take.
Most of my other systems are kept unassembled and used on a test bench when needed.

Same here 🤣, I tend to shuffle thru a lot of boards and somehow ended up with lots of cases. (recent score being a HUEG fulltower Chieftec case that had the most boring HW inside.)

Keyboard and mouse both look to have never been used and show no signs of yellowing, pretty sure this is one of them models that Honeywell spat out in the hundreds but with how clean it is its a nice find.

Always good to have DDR500 on hand! Managed to snag 4 of these kits too.

Ear marked for my I7 990X machine, have some spare ice pack tray for them too.

Yeah, there really isnt another source of parts out where I live, Rural Australia isn't known for its flea markets 🤣. I did get a good deal on the DDR500 since I was buying all the kits the seller had. Keyboard and mouse was 40 AUD and the two Raptors were 30 each. (Both drives only have 25 hours on them so barely used)

We did used to have a big flea market here once a month but Covid killed it and it never really recovered.

It came up in my "Vintage Computer" search, I filter by Australia Only and Newly Listed, it had only just gone up and I just jumped at it because of how clean it looked and I needed a nice AT keyboard for the 486.

I too have a lot of saved searches, I find switching between the US and AU ebay with my searches helps a lot. I also search on UK eBay and DE eBay them European types have a lot of cool bits especially Poland and Ukraine. Bought quite a few parts from Ukraine, they appreciate the support too.

Its going to be a 939 Opteron 180 based build which is the same CPU as the Athlon 64 X2 4600+, Got a nice Gigabyte K8NXP-9 Ultra board for it and now I have some fast ram for it too.

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-K8NXP-9-rev-10#ov (Got this NIB with all the kit, it did need to be recapped but its a lovely board so worth the extra work)

Still on the look out for a Opteron 154 or a Opteron 185 both of which are the FX-57 and FX-60 equivalents. (The Opteron 156 would also be nice but its a very rare beast and at 3Ghz would be the fastest stock CPU for 939)

I/O controller with manual

It was misplaced in some 'VGA Mentor' box with 5.25 inch floppy disks and also the manual of that VGA card. Unfortunately without that particular ET4000 card. 😉

I was lucky to find a 154 for (relatively) cheap when my 180 died mysteriousely.
For my top 2005 system, i think a fast single core is better than a slightly slower dual. That would probably not be true for a 2006 system.

Bought these the other day for my windows 98 system. Know the ssd is not considered retro but the application is and never had a
ati branded card before so thought I'd give it a shot and see if it'll surpass the voodoo 3 it's replacing. Still kinda "sketchy" on what
drivers to use for win98 and if it'll need directx 8 or not.
