The Turtle Beach Rio has a number of revisions that seem to deal with noise: https://www.os2museum.com/wp/tahiti-rio-monterey/
I started comparing my unmodded 2.0 and 3.0 Rio's to see what is the difference. I've noticed that the Rio 2.0 has indeed noise in the signal and capacitors that whine as was noticed by users back in the day. The 3.0 doesn't have this noise/whine but is much louder and seems to clip, even with safe and tested recording levels, as if it clips in the digital domain or close to it.
I'm now wondering if the cause of the clipping is caused by the changes of the revision or that is due to age of the components. If somebody has a 3.0 please test with the attached MIDI to see if it clips with default settings.
The 2.0 seems to sound better to my ears so far, but I will test it with other hardware combo's as well. There are instructions on how to remove the whine on the internet but these seem to target the Rio + Tahiti combo especially: https://web.archive.org/web/19990209070628/ht … rey/rioinst.txt
The mod on the 2.0 here seems different: http://www.amoretro.de/wp-content/uploads/tur … eneral_midi.jpg
On the CHiLL III I think I hear noise coming from the power supply. With other boards on the CHiLL III there is no noise whatsoever. Is there a better (read easier) way to mod it to remove the whine?
