I have this rebranded Asus P3B-F rev 1.04 motherboard. It's currently running with a Coppermine PIII 933 Mhz mounted on a slotket.
And then I have 5 universal AGP cards, all Nvidia. None of them works on this motherboard.
After I install the drivers what I get is just a blinking cursor after the Windows 98 boot screen.
The cards are:
- Geforce4 MX440 (128-bit 8x version)
- Quadro4 980 XGL
- FX 5200 Ultra
- FX 5600
- MX4000
What I tried so far (I hope I'm not forgetting anything):
- different Nvidia drivers (with the last two I'm forced to use at least the 53.04). Tried also without installing the Intel chipset drivers before Nvidia ones.
- different CPU (a slot-1 PIII 500Mhz)
- different RAM sticks and size (from 64 to 512 MB, PC100 and PC133)
- different BIOS versions (even the modded one from this forum)
- different PSU, tested also a refurbished one with 36A on the 5V rail which normally is in an Athlon XP PC.
- Win98 installation with ACPI turned off (the "/p i" setup flag)
With a Matrox G200 everything works ok. The Nvidia cards are all perfectly functional, I tested all of them in the Athlon XP based PC I mentioned earlier which has a 1.5 keyed AGP slot.
So I guess is some incompatibility of the motherboard with the universal AGP cards? It's just odd that they work okay until the drivers are installed.
