For broken(leaky) Japanese screens - only YT video I found (with any relevance to a fix, it is for a mac but applies for old made in japan laptop screens).

That's probably not going to help for the gas plasma screens on the T5200 though since they don't use polarisers. Adrian's Digital Basement looked at a Samsung clone of one recently and poked around in the LCD: https://youtu.be/iqELLO1OsJY?t=3712
I'm currently in polariser replacement hell trying to fix my T2450CT 🙁 Looks like he did a great job on replacing that front polariser sheet.
It looks like my T5200/100 has a newer version of the Phoenix BIOS, v3.40 dated 7/24/90. It is mostly the same as the v3.00 I saw in the BIOS pack, however a some small blocks of additions. The VGA BIOS is the same as V3.00 with only minor change, some 0xFF instead of 0x30.
I've attached both. It's a little beyond me to move the patches into this V3.40 as some of that empty space is in use now in this version.
Hey guys. Anyone else had a T5200 that reboots randomly? It will run fine for a while then bang, it resets. This then happens a couple of times til it stalls on the POST memory test, with a memory fault. I sometimes also notice the Down arrow key (numpad 2) stops working. Dunno if that's related.
I'm also thinking about a small external LCD screen (eg to sit on top of the T5200 for colour!), but they're all industrial and expensive. Any leads on where to find VGA LCDs around 10" to 12" in size?

There are some Toshiba programs with basic diagnostic / RAM tests, could give those a shot. TEST3 & TESTCE52 are the ones for T5200.

I've noticed in my T5200 that those SIMM slots are too loose. The pins don't have enough pressure to sticks and that causes memory errors. I gently bent every pin a little and now the memory errors are gone.

Cheers, the good news is the RAM test passed successfully multiple times. The computer's been stable lately as well - i'll just monitor it for now.
I finally found a replacement screen for the T5200/100 that got busted in shipping, so I can finally get to tuning it up. Putting a Gotek in first since the floppy isn't working, and authenticity aside I just love the convenience of that. Then I can see what shape the hard drive is in. It boots with no errors, but doesn't seem to have any proper disk scanning utility.
Hey all, I just got a t5200 myself and was wondering if a 5x86 amd 133mhz upgrade was possible, I'm just really hoping to somehow do snes emulation for Vegas stakes 🤣
Long time lurker; first time poster and friend of garagemadlad. TBH I honestly didn't think he was gonna make an account; I feel like I'm more hyped about his machine than he is! hehe.
Any luck with the TI TI486SXL2-G66-GA in the T5200, or any challenges to be aware of? Any ways to get some more clock speed? It seems like the cache + 486 will help much more with emulation; but might leave some SNES emulators wanting.
There is also this thread for a PGA168 to PGA132 custom interposer
Custom interposer module for TI486SXL2-66 PGA168 to PGA132 - HELP!
Has anyone used this interposer with any further, even more LUDICROUS SPEED CPU upgrades in their T5200s?!
So I guess I shall be going over there to ask there about it working with PGA-168 CPUs like: 5x86 chips from AMD, Cyrix, Cyrix 6x86 (M1), IBM/Cyrix 6x86L, Pentium Overdrive

How do you enjoy the Gotek so far? I'm trying to convince the fella in the comment below you to get one.
Have you thought about replacing the hard drive with a CF -- IDE adapter?
I see a dual-card adapter right now is about $15 on ebay.

Following this with great interest. I went with the CX486DRx2 upgrade and it made some significant change to performance, but I would be all ears in learning if anyone went "hyper-speed" with a 2/66 unit with a custom PCB 😀
Hello – I have a Toshiba T5200/100 for which I need some advice/assistance. I hadn’t used the system for a few years, and when I tried recently to use it again, it wouldn’t boot.
After a few futile attempts to repair the unit, I determined my original motherboard and memory board were "fried", so I would need to purchase another system and combine the best of each into a fully working unit. I found another one at a reasonable price on eBay, and I’ve successfully combined parts from each into “mostly working” system, but I’m still having an issue with the floppy, (and transferring hard drive data, but I'll submit another post):
(1) Reading Labels and Content from Floppy Disks (The drives from both systems are model Toshiba ND-3565-A, original to the units):
1. The floppy drive from the 2nd system doesn’t work at all, and my original floppy won’t properly read the electronic disk “LABEL” or contents of disks.
2. This occurs both on: (1) disks I've formatted and electronically labeled, and on: (2) installation disk sets, whether original manufacturer disk sets or ones I've created from downloaded images, (where each disk created from an image has a unique Disk label that's checked during installation to confirm the correct disk in the sequence is inserted before proceeding). For example, when the system requests Disk2 after successfully installing from Disk1, it keeps reading Disk2, (which has "Disk2" as its label), as Disk1, thereby stalling the installation.
3. As further confirmation, I formatted (4) disks and electronically labeled them sequentially as Disk1, Disk2, Disk3, and Disk4. When I read the directory of the first disk, (regardless of which of the disks I start with), that label and that disk’s contents are read correctly, and the floppy also reads and reports the unique volume serial number for that disk. When I read the directory of any other disk, regardless of which one I try, the system responds with the same disk label and contents as the previous disk, but it reports the unique volume serial number of the 2nd disk correctly.
4. For reference, I've already used a Floppy Disk Cleaner multiple times, and I've also removed the cover of the drive, cleaned the heads with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol, and reinstalled the drive, but I keep having the same issue.
5. On another forum, someone suggested the following:
“If this is a 'Disk Change' issue (drive not generating a Disk Change signal on pin 34, or faulty cable, or faulty system board), then a workaround (not actually a fix) may be to use DRIVPARM, described [here]. Because the T5200 uses a 1.44M diskette drive, per below, the number used for the F switch would be 7.”
6. I’ve searched for DRIVPARM, which is supposedly not included in PC-DOS, but is included as an “internal command” in MS-DOS versions, (including Toshiba DOS), but I can’t enable it using the example provided, even though my system is on Toshiba MS-DOS 5.00, so I’m at a standstill.
7. I’ve ordered the following to replace the ND-3565-A floppy:
a. A Toshiba ND-3565GR floppy drive, (which has a 34-pin male connector, not a 26-pin connector hardwired into the drive).
i. It also appears to have the same faceplate design, meaning I should be able to install the grey one from my existing drive to replace the beige one on the drive.
b. a 26-pin male to 26-pin male cable, (standard for the system board and a ND-3565-A drive.
c. A “34-Pin floppy interface to 26-pin FFC FPC flat cable adapter PCB converter b*x*”, (see https://www.ebay.com/itm/286042896020).
i. It appears this adapter will accomplish the same purpose as IanB’s modified floppy cable, (at Re: Toshiba T5200 mods and upgrades, posted at 19:22 on 2018-01-17)
8. The combination of the above items should properly connect the replacement Toshiba floppy to the system board.
a. Do I need to update the BIOS with one of IanB’s updates (at download/file.php?id=44607 ), for the drive to be recognized?
I would appreciate any advice to help resolve the above issue.
Thanks in advance!

Hello – I’m having an additional issue with my Toshiba T5200/100 for which I need some advice/assistance. As mentioned in my previous post, I hadn’t used the system for a few years, and when I tried recently to use it again, it wouldn’t boot, so I combined the better parts from each of two units into a single “mostly working” system, but I’m still having the following issue:
Connecting two 3.5” hard drives (for data transfer from my original CP-3204F drive to the replacement CP-3104 drive).
1. I’m trying to set up a Master/Slave configuration with the replacement CP-3104 drive as the Master and the original CP-3204F as the Slave.
a. I’ve found online documentation showing the jumper information for both drives to set up a Master/Slave configuration:
i. The jumper layout for the CP-3104, (at https://bk0010.narod.ru/DRIVESPECS/CONNER/583.txt), is accurately portrayed.
ii. The jumper layout for the CP-3204F, (at https://bk0010.narod.ru/DRIVESPECS/CONNER/595.txt), doesn’t match the configuration of my CP-3204F.
1. The jumpers shown in the document, ( below, as C/D and –DSP), do not match the jumpers on my CP-3204F drive, (R14, R15, and R16), so I can’t figure out how to set the R14, R15, and R16 jumpers to enable the CP-3204F as a 2nd hard drive. (I’ve removed the one jumper from R15 in case that would put the drive in “slave” mode, but that doesn’t work).

So it needs a bios update ... hmm... probably you also need to pull the chip to do that ... I am great but I am not that great of a user...
I felt that some steps I skipped by mistake , and hoped that I can remediate(redo) those steps....If i wont succeed(classic way) I will probably abandon my upgrade and restore factory drive....

https://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/264877993192This is an expansion card that goes into the special toshiba expansion slot.
It provides an XT-IDE BIOS in ROM as well as an CF card slot that's easily accessible from the back of the machine.
It is compatible with many Toshiba portables from the T1100+ all the way up to the T5200One of the more interesting features that i think many people here will find useful, is that it can also easily be configured to control the internal IDE controller on machines that have one. (T3100e, T3200sx(c), T5100, T5200(c))
This allows you to have both an easily accessible CF card slot as well as the ability to change out the internal drive without running into the restrictions of the Toshiba BIOS.I hope some of you will find this helpful

Hi Tom,
if you don't get an answer, i do have a unit that i can potentially sell (because i also bought the 3-in-1 later on and so now the CF/xt-ide card sits in a box. I'm located in your neighbouring country also so shipping should not be very bad either. Just PM if interested.
