Ok, that means Aladdin might work also. I don't think Hercules would, as it's too new.
here is a decent list of 3.1 games http://www.uvlist.net/globalsearch?t=windows+3.1
I remember having some w95 games run on 3.11 once WinG was installed. No idea what they were though.

you might also be able to increase compatibility even further by installing win32s, which implements some parts of win95 into windows3.1. from what I heard the windows port of lemmings will work provided win32s and wing is installed.

lion king was one of those games, which is why I mentioned it in the first place. other games I remember using wing are baily's bookhouse (and it's sequels) and lemmings for windows.

The vast majority of Windows 3.1x games I played were shareware. Wintrek was a good one. SimTower was released as a Windows 3.1x program too, like most it required WinG.

I believe some of the later king's quest games (starting with kq5) were released for win3.1 as well.

Re: those later Sierra SCI games; one of the frustrating things was that they put up a full-color Windows title bar at the very top of the screen, even when the game was in full-screen mode. This was pretty distracting in darker scenes -- really took away from the mood.

It's also interesting, in those pre-DirectX days, how much worse performance was when running under Windows. Gabriel Knight MPC runs on DOS systems without a problem, when the same hardware in Windows fails Sierra's own hardware performance tests.

But yes, there were Windows installers for games such as KQ5 and Gabriel Knight, complete with Sierra-created custom icons and program groups...

also, I believe there was an unoficial winG port of doom that went unreleased for several years. hell, if it were released closer to the dos original, I could've joked that it was the precursor to doom95.

autoexecdotbat, I tried to restore the link and descriptive text as best as could. I apologize for not investigating more thoroughly and jumping to censor your post.

thanks for reinstating the link, Stiletto.
by the way, win32s also includes microsoft freecell. (yes, the same version of freesell that came with later versions of windows.)

I am extremely partial to Betrayal in Antara. Love that game.

Need to install that. I own the game but i need a virtual machine to even copy the files of the 3rd cd 🤣

Also i'm kind of scared of running it on dosbox because years ago, the game crashed on the very last scene where introducing ingredients to the cauldron to trigger the ending. Do you have ending saves i could use to test?

I found a fix and improvements for Antara, but not for w3.1: http://www.squirtthecat.com/games/betrayal_in … tara/index.html

I had no idea another world got a windows3.1 port. the wikipedia article on it never mentioned any windows 3.1 port (only dos and windows xp versions).

Awesome thread! Some nice games from the public domain and shareware corner I remember:
Space Exploration Alpha, Solar Vengeance, Stellar Explorer, Warpath!, Wintrek, Wintrek (BFM Soft), EmPipe,
Lander 3, GnuChess, Jiji's adventure, Hugo's House of Horrors (yes, there was a windows port), Klotzki and WormWorld.

And a few retail games:
- Myst (original release Mac System 6 or 7 / Win3.1, later Win95, all use Quicktime)
- Atari 2600 Action Pack (one is for Win3.1 (uses WinG), one for Win95 )
- Creatures! (Win32s / MacOS, but does it qualify as a game ?)

@autoexecdotbat
Another World even got a Genesis (megadrive) release.
So its probably ported (or will be ported) to every platform we can think of. 😁
