Apologies for the dumb question, but what is the purpose, exactly, of producing these AI images which, for the most part, look decidedly fake? Aren't there public domain photographs of actual vintage hardware available?

Personally, I love the artefacts

Generated with Google Gemini. The prompt was : "A PC from the 90s with a 3dfx and Doom on the screen". I actually like the all-in-one design 😀

Same. I just like to see what I can get it to do.

Plus, I use it for a lot more than just "real" hardware. I like to create fictional scenes as well, like the ones seen below.

Flux on over Night Cafe decided to put a portal behind my PC running Doom. 😜

I also had fun making some steampunk/Lovecraft style computers and devices.

I've been having fun creating "Pixel Art" and figuring out prompts that result in an output that is reminiscent of video games. Trying to get images that look like they belong in old 16/32-bit systems. So far, I've made over 120 "good" images, more than enough to train a model on doing this style of pixel art.

I also discovered a flaw in their auto moderation tool while working on my new model and they're actually fixing it! It was flagging images as "unusable" for training, even though they were fine. Many created using the exact same prompt. It was just being over-zealous in it's image inspection.

Either way, here are just a few examples of some of my outputs. What do you think? 😀
