I'm using a program called "Memeater" for such cases. Works without problems so far. I want to try out EATXMS as well to have alternatives. I can't find a download link 🙁 Can someone provide one? Found a link for EATXMS: http://www.win3x.org/win3board/viewtopic.php?t=27301

For games that are having problems because of too much RAM installed i use memeater. https://github.com/kklis/memeater No problems so far on ALi Aladdin V chipset (Asus P5A). Games that are not working before work after stealing some RAM with memeater.

Thanks @mockingbird! Naraeon SSD Tools works with my configuration! I checked the bytes afterwards and they are "00" now 😀 Thanks @darry as well for instructions how I could have tried it with Linux live system. Vogons is such a great forum!

It's hard to find a suitable modern PSU that has enough power on 3.3V/5V. I'm using EVGAs 450/500W PSUs in my retro PCs that have 120W on 3.3V + 5V combined. I don't have any issues except for the Voodoo5 not getting enough power. I don't want to go for a >600W PSU just to have around 150W on 3.3V/ …

Windows 98 does not natively support NTFS, only FAT16 and FAT32. You need an addon like Paragon NTFS for Windows 98. Remember when using pure DOS (up to 6.22) the hard drive has to be in FAT16 format or fdisk will not recognize it.
