Re: How important is screen resolution to you?

in Milliways
One more thing - wasn't the move from HD to 4k a bit rushed? I mean, 1080p is by far the most popular resolution for gaming (at least according to Steam's hardware & software survey as of April'24), and that's pretty understandable, as only the most powerful & expensive GPUs and CPUs allow to run …

Re: Texture filtering - yay or nay?

My first console was an Atari 2600 clone Cheers, my first gaming device of any kind was also the Atari 2600! :) The Jr. model to be exact. Got it in 1990 or 1991. Still have it, although I'm not too sure it still works. I bought the composite out mod for it a couple of years back but didn't have …

Apart from Fallout 4 in survival mode, I've been playing some Forza Horizon 4 with my elder kid. He can handle the wheel pretty fine but he's too short to reach the gas and brake pedal, so dad's gotta help for now 😉

I always argue that a dvd movie displayed on a crt tv looks way beter than on any modern HD/4k panel. Hell, it even gives Bluray a run for its money! For retro gaming, I really like the grungy look of 640x480 on my crt monitor, so that's the resolution I usually opt for. Plus it allows a more or …

On the other hand, the software renderer has underwater effect and there are source ports retaining that renderer without the problems around the transparent textures. Interesting. The transparent water/portal effect could be activated through a console command in glQuake, did they remove that in …

Re: Texture filtering - yay or nay?

I had some kind of nostalgia googles on. Back in the day when i got my Voodoo, everything looked so smooth and beautiful. Nowdays I prefere my first/second generation games in high resolution software mode. Ok Unreal Tournament have filtering even in software mode. But Quake2 in 3D accelerated is …

I've installed Fallout 4 + the latest update for another playthrough, first time since 2018. I'm playing it in survival mode, the increase in immersion compared to other difficulty levels is huge! There's no fast travel and manual saving, you have to rest, eat and stay hydrated, constantly monitor …

Also, your avatar looks familiar, are you a member of the foreverdelayed.org.uk forum by any chance? ;) Thanks for the picture, interesting setup. And I'm not a member of that forum sorry. Thanks! My room is a bit of a cluttered mess, so I won't be showing off my retro computing area in its …

This is borderline modern/retro: I bought a PS3 with the sole intention of hooking it up to my CRT TV and running RetroArch. I've been setting this up all day today. Fun, fun, fun! Pictures or this does not exist :-) Here ya go! Also, your avatar looks familiar, are you a member of the …
